People don't know "our story." And that's cool because in a lot of ways, it's no one's business. Tabatha is my best friend and sister and we share the same mother and father,
but we grew up in two different households, each as only children. A judge today wouldn't separate children in a divorce...but 30 years ago in a backwards county, it happened & it was our reality for 15 years. When we were separated I was two, and when we were reunited I was 17. We always knew of each other, but I traveled and lived overseas with our mom and my stepdad, and she lived her whole life in the same house. When we finally "met", I was a senior in high school and she was a freshman in college. We had an instant connection but our friendship grew over time. It culminated into an amazing closeness 7 years ago when we lived together on and off for 5 years...relying on each other through the toughest time of each of our lives. We are fiercely loyal to each other. We have the same sense of humor. We have similar tastes in books, movies, and music. We have similar political views and parenting styles. We are as alike as two girls can get, but we are missing 15 years of sibling history. It gets odd at times...Hallmark cards that aren't quite right...running into old friends & having to explain a sibling neither of us ever mentioned.Pain from lost years. Our mom missed Tab's childhood and our dad missed mine. She and I both had a void, too. People say all the time that they wish they had a relationship with their sister like we have. But really? Our story isn't perfect. We just both know what it's like to be without each other. So we know we never want to live that...voluntarily...again. I'd do anything for her, and I know she feels the same way. We don't hold back. Every we say I love you. We may not have a complete history, but we have love, and that's all we need.
