Another Lo of our IVF journey.


Journaling:
On May 3d I went in for some more blood work. We had to go to a Lifelabs instead of the clinic because they do not do blood work on Saturday. I could not believe how many people were there at 7:30 in the morning! There had to of been at least 30! I waited on pins and needles for the call from the nurse that day for my results. I got the call at 2pm that I was to take my HCG injection at 10:30 that night and then come into the clinic at 8am Monday morning for my egg retrieval! I cannot even begin to describe how excited I felt! On Monday morning we got to the clinic right at 8am on the dot.. we checked in at the front desk and then waited in the waiting room about 15 minutes till the nurse called us back to a section of the clinic I have never seen. It had big lazy boy recliners with 1 chair and small table next to it. The nurse had me change into this floral wrap that looked like a skirt and then had me sit on one of the recliners. Byron sat next to me in the chair. The nurse then made sure all our consent forum were signed then came over and gave me a few pills as another nurse started an IV. I’m not really sure how long we sat there waiting to go in to the retrieval room, but I don’t think it was longer then 10 minutes. I was so nervous that I had to to pee 3 times in this 10 minute time frame! Then nurse then came over and directed us to the egg retrieval room. Dr.H then came in soon after and the nurse gave me a shot of something that made me feel really loopy. Byron and I both got to watch the whole egg retrieval on the ultrasound monitor. It was soo neat, amazing to say the least! As Dr.H was retrieving the follicles I would hear the lab calling out how many eggs there were found… 3, 6, 9 I heard! All of it happen so quick and it was pretty painless. The nurse then wheeled me back over the lazy boy and then she told Byron they were ready for him to give this sample. When Byron was away doing his thing, the nurse came in and gave me a final count on how many eggs were found, 19 she told me! I was soo pleased with this number! We had to stay at the clinic and relax for another 40 minutes to make sure everything was ok.. I read magazines, drank apple juice and ate a few oatmeal cookies.. Byron fell asleep. We went home and soon after we got home I got a call from the lab letting me know that they were going to have to do ISCI, which we knew would probably happen and did not have a problem with it. The next day I waited on pins and needles again for the labs call.. Nothing all day and when 3:15 rolled around I called the clinic to see what time they usually call back. She informed me that the lab was running behind today and that I should expect a call very soon. About ½ hour later I did get a call! The dr informed me that 9 out 16 eggs fertilized. She said that not all eggs are perfect so not all will fertilize. She said 9 is a great number! Today I got the call from the lab around 10:30am letting me know that everything is looking great and they wanted to do a 3 day transfer.. that’s tomorrow! I was excited to hear this, Such a great Birthday gift! She let me know that there were 2 grade A embryos, 2 grade B, 2 grade B- and 1 grade C and they will be transferring the 2 grade A ones and it all goes well, the other will be frozen. I am soo excited that I can’t stop smiling! I will never forget my 28th Birthday that is for sure!
