Journaling-What was really neat about Vulture City and the mine was that it looked untouched. The buildings were still standing, and you could go in them at your own risk. There were broken bottles, old dressers, stoves, and even a sewing machine in one house. The assay office still had the signs and the vault where they stored gold. We saw the “Hanging Tree” where 18 men were hanged for stealing gold ore. We got to see kitchens, the blacksmith shop and some old stables. The mine was all blocked off, but you could see the tracks leading in, and the angle (steep). There was even a big hole in the ground from a mining accident that killed five miners-they were still buried in the hole. It took about an hour to go walk through the town and the mine. At one point, Macy became chilly, so mom wrapped her up in the a sweater for warmth. Dad and I wandered through the most of the buildings. After the town, we went into Wickenburg and visited the museum. The museum was pretty interesting-we saw one of the Earp Brother’s guns, pictures of Wickenburg and Vulture City during the frontier period, and a modle fronteir town, including a general store, tavern, and house with authentic furnishings. Overall, an educational day!
