I have never told anyone online this story before. It was a very trying time for us and no one knew what we were going through. Some things you just choose to not share. I feel at peace with sharing it now.
Quote:
Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder of who is in charge. A gentle reminder that everything is going to be okay. On May 15, 2008 I was three days away from delivering my third child. I was married, my husband was working, and we were in a decent situation. On May 16, 2008 we were homeless. It hit us out of nowhere. How were we, a responsible middle class family, finding ourselves here? Living in a hotel and scared for the future. I laid in the hotel room crying myself to sleep that night. As was happening every night, I fell asleep from sheer exhaustion but then woke up in the middle of the night, too stressed to sleep. I laid in the hard hotel bed, begging God to make everything okay, to give me a sign that everything was going to be fine. I started hearing music. It sounded like chanting. I threw on a shirt over my pajamas and I walked to our balcony to see what the noise was. A man was putting some tools in his truck. I asked him what kind of music that was. "It's Gregorian chants. From a group of monks who devote their entire life to not speaking unless they are singing to God. I put this on when my children can't sleep. I've always had a special bond with God, though." At this point I started crying and he came and hugged me. "I don't know what you're going through. It isn't my business and it doesn't matter what you're going through. I've been in the divine presence of the Lord before and I can tell you whatever He is testing you with right now is so insignificant compared to His larger plan for you." I felt so much light and peace in that moment. I knew that something life-changing was happening to me. We sat and chatted in the lobby for a little while, and then he left for work. He handed me his card before he went. His name was Angel, and he was a carpenter. I know that God sent me that angel to serve as a gentle reminder who was in control. I carry Angel's card in my wallet for those dark moments when I need reminding.

Everything turned out all right in the end. It was later that day that I talked to my sister and we ended up moving in with her...two days before Parker was born. It was a very tumultuous time for us but it has only strengthened my faith.
