After living in the Baltimore area for three and a half years, I finally made it down to Washington D.C. for the famed “Cherry Blossom Festival”. We rounded up some friends, , I grabbed my camera gear, and we were off. We met up with Jenny, Michelle, Lauren, and Chris when we got there, and on our way down we picked up Jadyn and her friend Sarah. The metro into D.C. from College Park was PACKED, and was a glimpse into what D.C. would be like. We decided to go down on the day of the actual Festival during the select few “peak” days of the blossoms. This means that the news crews were there, and so was everyone and their mother. It had rained heavily the night before, and was incredibly windy all day long, but the trees were so overloaded with blossoms you could hardly tell the weather had been bad recently. We walked around the Washington Monument, went down to the Vietnam Memorial and the fountains, the made our way around the whole tidal basin around to the Jefferson Memorial. On our trip around the tidal basin, we found the FDR Memoria. This is a series of free standing walls and falling water stream fountains, with aged metal sculptures, and placards of inspirational quotes. As packed as it was, it was truly a beautiful afternoon. The weather was warm, the breeze was gentle, and the company was fantastic. I am sure that this will not be my last trip to the Cherry Blossom Festival.
