Growing up, Uncle David and I always had honeysuckle plants to ‘snack on’
when we were. Dad let them grow on our back fence, and neighbors had
them as well. When we were out exploring, they were everywhere I can
remember just hanging out at fencelines, working those flowers over for
the drop of nectar from the stamen. Good times...We don’t see them as
much at home, so when I found a bush still blooming at the park, we
decided to try them out. Aiden thought it was real honey since all the
bees were buzzing around, but we learned that it was really the nectar
from the plant. We brought some home to have a ‘snack’ on for later.
It’s just one of those things from my childhood that I can remember
fondly, and was excited to share it with the boys.
