This beautiful little park is located on the Potomac River, where it meets Aquia Creek. In the 1800’s this served as a steam boat wharf. People would arrive here and then take stage coaches to their destinations, and later became on the the only steamboat to rail connection points. This was also used as a domestic slave trade portal. During the Civil War the North and South fought over this location for three straight days. After the Union took over the site more than 10,000 slaves sought freedom through this area on their way to D.C. Today this beautiful area is for recreation. Their are picnic areas, beaches, and so much beautiful nature to enjoy.
