This is for the Sweet Inspiration Challenge #46, Product Packaging. I was inspired by the colors and blocking on the bag.
Journaling: When we found out you needed orthotics, I was apprehensive. On the one hand I was excited that these might bring you one step closer to walking. On the other hand, braces are a visible sign of difference. I didn't want people to see your orthotics and make assumptions about you, didn't want strangers to interact with you differently because of them. I was a little worried that your gross motor delays would become more
noticeable than your friendly smile and fun-loving personality.
As soon as you adjusted to your orthotics and the special shoes you wear to accommodate them, it was obvious that they helped stabilize you, making it easier for you to stand. Even so, we were glad that the orthotics only came to your ankles. In pants they were completely covered, and in shorts they weren't too obvious.
Four months later, I'm happy to report that you're a new walker. We're no longer self-conscious about your orthotics, and people don't respond to you any differently because of them. I'll be thrilled when you progress to the point where you no longer need them, but for now they're a visible reminder of how far you've come and how hard you've worked to get there.
