A conversation that Ethan and I had recently:
While at a clothes shop exchanging clothes that were too big.
Ethan: WHAT!!! $99
Carolyn: Yes but I only paid $30 on sale - and adult clothes aren't as cheap as childrens clothes. When you grow up, your clothes will cost this much too.
Ethan: No I don't want to grow up.
Carolyn: Everybody grows up sooner or later
Ethan: Not me, Ethan no grow up.
Carolyn: But we don't have a choice, we all grow up eventually
Ethan: *starts crying* but I don't want to grow up.
Carolyn: *dawns on me why he doesn't want to grow up* Do you not want to grow up because you think you'll have to give your toys away.
Ethan: *hangs head* yes
Carolyn: Just because you grow up doesn't mean you have to give your toys away. Your brother doesn't play with his toys anymore, and that is why he is giving them to you, not because he is "grown up"
Ethan: So I can keep my spider-man, beyblades, lego and hotwheels
Carolyn: of course you can, you can keep whatever you want
Ethan: Can I keep my lego and trucks
Carolyn: Yep
Ethan: I can keep my hot wheels and trucks
Carolyn: Yep
Ethan: *smiling now* ok
