Lift of Eve's page , which for some reason the blog wont let me click on the page to get to the gallery and am rushed for time to look for it manually. I saw Emma's page about her surname and I had been for a while wanting to make one of my own, not sure if the journaling is exactly what needs be, scrapped a few weeks ago.
The photo in the bottom right is one of my drawings, not sure if you can see it, is a heart in the middle, as an anatomical human heart.

The privilege of being born in families financially well of and with superior education, turned into a bit of a problem for little me, arriving in this world in the late 50s, mum was reading a romantic novel during the pregnancy that lead to the arrival of Your's Truly to this world, the protagonist's was called Cynthia, and yeah, you guessed, she decided she wanted the name fort me. Now, this was the world of South America in the 50s and 60s, there were no other Cynthias neither Brazil nor Argentina, teachers paused when it came to me, not just the Cynthia but to follow was the complicated two part surname, Arabic, and oh the frustration... I have been called a number of variations of what could be an approximation of the sound. In Argentina the most common being Silvia, In Brazil Cida or Cidinha , the diminutives of Aparecida (meaning "it appeared" - originated after fishermen found in their nets first the head then the torso of an image of Mary (Virgin Mary), they called her Our Lady of the Apparition (or some like that) this was 1717, in 1929 Pope XI officially declared her as the Saint patron of our country, Brazil, the name was very popular until the 70s, probably mid 80s even, and my name in Portuguese sounds very similar to the diminutives of that name. All others are approximations in sound but not as interesting in history! At some point, maybe in my early 20s, it became posh to call children with foreign names so I wasn't all that alone as a Cynthia, thought others were simplified as Cintia or Sintia, but still a degree of difficulty persisted
When first coming to England, oh relief! I though! little did i know, in this country it became a bit of a joke to which I was in the dark for the first couple of months, then I was made aware that the most famous Cynthia of Great Britain achieved her celebrity status by being a powerful Madame with her brothel, catering to politician, celebrities of showbiz and others, on a funny note, her surname was Pain! Anyway, most of my very close friends call me Cynth or Cyn, and by now with globalization the name isn' t uncommon anywhere really, so all is fine! TFL!

Great story! I never would have thought twice about your name. there were several Cynthia's (mostly Cindy's) in my school. I love your drawing that you included!
