SO UNFAIR!!!

I hate life sometimes!!!! It is so freaking unfair!

When I got pregnant with Avalynne, I found my way to a birth club at Babycenter.ca, and have gotten to know a bunch of ladies that were all due the same month as me. There was this one woman, M, who was SUPER sweet, due the same day as me. Her and her DH only planned on one child, and oh my goodness they love her SO much! They waited like 12 years to have her.

So since she was born, she's been putting on very little weight. Even now, at a year, she's like 15 lbs. They'd been to doctor after doctor, and they kept getting told that she's just petite. Which makes sense because M is only like 5'2". But when it was time to start solids, the baby wanted nothing to do with it. She's still not eating anything except breast milk, which there isn't much of anymore.

So they went AGAIN to the doctor, and this time the doctor clued in that something might be wrong. And on Friday, little baby A was diagnosed with Cystinosis (Google it... it's bad). Basically, little A might get to be about 10 before her body starts shutting down on itself, and with LOTS of medical help, kidney transplants, and pills for her entire life, she *might* live to be in her early 30's. But she'll have little quality of life after 10.

Over on the mommy board, we are all crushed!!! I can't even imagine how bad M is feeling right now. I burst into tears, and I've been crying on and off all morning, and I don't even know her in real life!!! Her and her DH are just devastated...

I really, really hate life sometimes. If you got through this, thanks! I needed to vent my frustration...!!!

Awwww, that's so sad!! These things are just so unfair...leave the getting sick to people who've had a chance to live instead of these innocent little kids...

Awww, (((hugs))) going out to your friend and her family. I can't imagine how devistated they are to get this kind of news. My heart goes out to them.

It's amazing how attached you can get to people through the internet. I am part of a small group that chatted on Babycenter through our whole pregnancy and now our babies are almost 1! (We have also since dumped Babycenter cuz we hate the new format.)

That is so sad, poor little thing! I know how internet groups can be, I was on a playgroup when I was prego with Rae, and she's now 4, and most of us are still together. We were on iVillage, but we've since moved off-site. Just because you never met her in real life doesn't diminish the friendship, IMO.

That is very sad. Hopefully, she's seeking a second opinion. If it's so, once she gets past the grief, though, I'm sure she and her family will focus even more on giving that baby so much love in whatever time that child has. It's not fair, but all the more reason to love that baby with all their might.

How sad! They must be devastated. I agree with Bree--there should be a way for us grownups to take the burdens on ourselves and let the kids be healthy and happy.
