Cathy Z's Me: the Abridged Version class
So who here is taking her class over at Big Picture Scrapbooking? I think I saw Col and Anso in the forums over there. Anyone else?
And did you guys do the pre-class tag book? I admit I did not, haha. |

Yup that's me! I'm printing out the tags tonight, lol. I never do "pre-class" work. Heck, I can barely do "class work" LOL!

I'm enrolled but I still have to watch the video. I haven't even done anything in the forums (but, truthfully, I don't usually do much in the forums during class. Most of the time I don't really stay caught up with class).
I decided to sign up for the online class because I bought the book (The Encyclopedia of Me) a couple of years ago when they were having it as a class at a CK University or something. I knew I couldn't go to the class in person so I thought I would buy the book and try to do it on my own. All I did was read the book and it has been sitting on my bookshelf. I figured that signing up for the class online might give me the motivation to actually do that album. Glad to hear that others here are taking it too. Maybe that will give me the motivation to complete this one. P.S. I only have 2 words for my "pre-work". Ooops.

Christine you could sign up now, get all the goodies, and then do the actual album and stuff later on. With the wedding coming up so quickly, I'm sure I won't stay up to date with it for very long, but I can at least get everything I need to do the project, you know?

Cathy said in the video message that the pre-class assignment didn't really matter, that we were all in a perfect place to start. It was basically just to get you brainstorming ideas if you wanted to ahead of time.

LOL... between games on all day Sunday, then Monday night, and then NFL Replay on allllllllllll week.... I have to be able to watch and design at the same time. Good thing I love football!
But on the original topic.... is it an All About Me class? |

Yup. It's based off the book "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life" by Amy Krausee Rosenthal. It's an encyclopedia of things about you. So like one of my F's is going to be Football. One of my P's will be Penn State (unless I come upwith other P's and then it'll be a U for University - Penn State). C for Crafts. J for Jordan. T for Tigah-now. Etc etc.
Cathy Z is providing layered templates too, for those who want to do it digitally. It's based on 8.5x11, but you can alter it for 12x12.

Yes, sort of...but it is based on the book Encyclopedia of and Ordinary Life by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. It really looks like a lot of fun.

so the concept is the alphabetical all about you.... that is cool. I'm needing to do a bunch of pages about my DH (I suddenly realized that I never scrap him!) and those could be good prompts for pages about him too.

There are a few people in the class who are doing a combined book for them and their husband Julie. Left page them, facing page their hubby. Def a great idea to do

Oh wow, the combined book sounds like an awesome idea! I just told Todd that he has to come up with two or three words about himself for every letter of the alphabet. And I got a blank stare.

Yea I would love to do one for the both of us, but I already know that he's not going to go for it, lol. Maybe I'll get him drunk tonight and suggest it......

I just signed up too, I think I will do a combined book too. I have maybe one LO of me and only a few about DH. Most of them are my DS.

I'm pretty sure if I tried to get Adam to do this, I'd get the same blank stare. He's pretty understanding about scrap stuff but that would probably be pushing it, haha.

I did something similar for DH when the boys were babies. The trick is not to present the whole idea at once. Just give them 2 letters at a time and give them a word to prompt them. "I think you are awesome honey! What other A word would you use to describe yourself?" It did take me 4 months to get all the words out of him but somewhere around F he started viewing it as a challenge and would look up long multi syllable words in the thesaurus to give me.

So has anyone thought ahead to what kit they're going to use to make their finished album? Right now I've been playing around with the papers from Icy Cool by Traci Reed. I've also been using the acrylic letters that are with that kit for the letter in the corner. I'm not sure if I want to stick to the acrylic letters yet. I would love to hear which kits you are thinking of using.

I finally convinced my hubby to do this with me... so I was going to be using KCB's All about Him and All about Her kits... I'm so excited!! But I'm sure I'll be going a slower pace than the rest of the class... I haven't even started!

So this is what I've been working on instead of journal entries. I made it into a square shape since I've been getting finished theme albums printed as 8x8 with Shutterfly lately. I'm still trying to decide if I'm sticking with the acrylic letters or choosing another one (that's why most of the pages have the letter e right now. I don't have this many E entries. )

You know that Cathy is going to provide us with layered template right?
I just wrote out my P entry for Penn State. That itself is over 500 words. I might need 2 pages per letter......

You know, I was thinking that too about needing more space. Don't know yet if I will just edit myself, create extra pages where necessary, or try to expand each letter to two pages (which would be a real stretch). I'm actually sort of struggling with what do I want to include, what belongs in another book, what do I want to leave out.

P for Penn State was my first journaling entry. I had a thought and was inspired so I just opened up a word doc and went for it. It just sorta struck me suddenly, how insanely different my life would be if I hadn't gone there for college. That's not really something I want to edit down, you know?
I'm looking at this project as a bit of a journey. I don't need to know (or at least I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need to know) EXACTLY how EVERYTHING is going to go. I'm going to try and be a bit more organic with it than I usually am with things. We'll see how it works for me I don't usually scrap 8.5x11 so I'm tempted to stick with size, just to do something different. But I may get into and decide that 8x8 or 10x10 or whatever, is the way to go. Again, we'll see what happens

I've got at least three words for every letter now. I just need to really journal. I ditto what Col said about Penn State, except mine's Ohio State.
I also haven't determined whether to stick with the 8.5x11 template that Cathy is providing, or converting them to 12x12, or going with a different format altogether. As with most projects, I just tell myself there are no rules and I can do whatever I want with it, because it's MY project, LOL. |

When I first heard about Cathy's album way back when on her blog (before she made it into a class), I thought it'd be a really cool way to document the college years so that's what I'm doing. I figure I scrap plenty of random pages about myself already. I'm planning on doing mine 8.5x11 since I already have that size albums anyway. I haven't decided if I'm going to put it in it's own album yet or just have it be a section in one of my existing albums. Last edited by Nettio; 09-10-2009 at 02:34 PM. |

Lynnette that's an awesome idea!! Very cool spin on it to make it your own!
Yaaaaaaaaaay Aggie!! I just downloaded the new stuff for this week. I'm still working on my journaling and trying to decide on a size, lol. I have a 12x12 American Crafts Ding sitting at home without a project for it, so I might just go for it that way. If I go that route I'll pull out one of my fave Basic Grey lines and do it traditionally. Hmm......

Nope, lol. I got totally off track because of the wedding, but I knew that would happen.
I don't have my words/journaling completely done yet either. It'll get done though. Eventually. That's all that matters to me.

That's awesome Anso! I'd love to see how your inside pages turned out too.
I got as far as brainstorming all my words before September got crazy with my heading back to CO and having to de-dustify my house after being gone three months. But I'd definitely love to finish the album at some point (probably after the new year) because I know it'll be such a cool keepsake. |
