Hey friends! It's time to dive into another historical fiction novel! This time around we're reading The Secret Wife by Gill Paul

The Secret Wife by Gill Paul is a historical fiction novel that weaves together two timelines: in 1914, Grand Duchess Tatiana Romanov falls in love with a cavalry officer named Dmitri amidst the Russian Revolution, while in 2016, a woman named Kitty discovers a family secret linked to Dmitri through a jeweled pendant found in a remote cabin. The story explores their forbidden romance, the fall of the Romanovs, and the enduring mystery of what happened to Tatiana, connecting past and present through themes of love, loss, and resilience.

This thread is for initial thoughts, expectations, assumptions, etc - I'll be back the second week of May with a list of specific discussion questions for us all to dig into.

Just a reminder that book club is for everyone! Feel free to join us if and when you can - no pressure to keep up with every month... you can also pop in later in the year and catch up on the convo if you're a slow reader or had a long wait to get your copy. It's all very low-key.

If your post includes *spoilers* make sure to use the super cool new spoilers feature so we don't ruin anyone's good time.

Thanks again for being here!

WOW! What a book; one of history, love and heartache. It kept me reading, and the real excitement started after Chapter 25.

Just wanted to pop in to say that I started listening this book last week and really am enjoying it.
I love stories like this, where the now is linked to historical events.
At the end of April and the start of May, I always try to read/listen to books about World War II (since tomorrow is Liberation Day here, so this part of our national history is alive right now). Although this book is about WWI, I think it still fits the bill. It's about a part of the history of Europe that's lesser known and I love to learn more about it.
I also enjoy the writing style. I want to listen and read on, taking the dog for longer walks (but with iNSD and daily life, I have to split my time).
Anyway, thanks for picking this book and I'm glad it is available in my audiobook app.

Yes, tell me all you know about the Romanovs. I hadn't even heard of them until reading this book. I loved all the links to historical events in this book.

I've decided to start reading the monthly books in the last half of the month. Hopefully that will keep me from forgetting things before the questionnaire is posted.😂 I hope to start this book today. Earlier this month I read a book and listened to another book. Both dealt with deceased husbands named Paul! 😁

Finished the book yesterday.
I really loved it and this is one of the best books I read/listened to this year so far.

I just finished it today.
WOW! It sounded like a good book, but I had no idea it would be great! The title could be taken in several ways. One of the attorneys I work with saw that genealogy chart and said something about the Romanovs. I had never heard of them, and he was surprised (he's 38). He had read a book about the Romanovs. What a tragic real-life story!
