I didn't realize three would be such a challenge. People talk about the terrible twos, but you were a dream at two. I thought we were so lucky having avoided the crankiness and the tantrums and that we wouldn't have to worry again until you hit thirteen (plus you're a boy and aren't boys supposed to be easier?). But three has been tough. The balance between doing it yourself and needing a little help. Having the language skills but not always the skills to understand what we are trying to tell you. And then there's the stubbornness. "I want to go first! I don't want to wear that! I don't like vegetables!" But then I spend a few hours with you and you are adorable - so smart and funny and happy. It reminds me that this period is short lived and well worth the challenges for all that they will teach us.
