I'm sorry you said C has not adapted. I'm very worried about my younger one when the time comes. Yesterday at 5:30am my older one was acting funny and woke me up (unbeknownst to me it was because the ready alarm had gone off on the clothes dryer and I just didn't hear it - my DH moved the wash over when he left). She was shaking and panting and I immediately worried she was suffering from CHF or something causing her pain, but no it was anxiety about the alarm. Once I took her downstairs to see if potty was the issue, the alarm sounded again and I knew. Poor girl. Of course all it takes is turning it to stop and giving her a treat and all is forgotten. LOL. I know she's 9 now, so it is a matter of time (our last dog passed at 9 so this bday hit differently), but I dread it.
