Okay girls. We are approaching bathing suit time and it always makes me wonder how others do their "maintenance" in the bikini area. SO, what do you do? Wax, shave, laser removal?????? I have never been successful shaving. Ever. I am actually considering a home laser removal system like this one (image is linked)......
![]() Oh or if you have any tips for getting a great shave minus the irritating little bumps, that would be awesome too. ![]() |

And I'll be watching this thread. I shave to maintain 'cause it's the most convenient/easiest for me, but I certainly find it a chore. Evolution needs to catch up to us girls wanting to be hair-free.

For that matter, I wouldn't care if guys didn't have any hair on their bodies either.

this sounds crazy - but if you apply a solid deodorant/antiperspirant to the area after you shave it can cut down on razor burn...
I hate the maintenance of this area too! |

Well, I have not ever had laser hair removal on my bikini area but I have on my face. I went with Sona Med Spa in Greensboro, NC (I think they have multiple locations in several states). For years I struggled with excess hair on my cheeks, chin and upper lip (stinking polycystic ovarian syndrome). Laser treatments have worked great! It was a bit pricey but effective. I believe it totaled a little more than $1,000...but with as much as it bothered me it was worth it. After you have one package any additional packages you buy are 50%. Good luck and I will be watching this thread

I've done laser hair removal and it has helped a lot although I didn't finish all the treatments yet. I just touch up with a razor.

I wax. I'm a big girl which kept me from doing it for a long time because I was worried about what they would think, but it was the best hygiene decision I've ever made!
If you go to someone who is good (I go to European Wax Center if you have one nearby), she'll be done in 5 mins or less and it lasts for 3-4 weeks easy and when you go back after the first time, it's nowhere near as painful. The hair really thins out after a few visits too so it's no big deal at all. Seriously... best. decision. ever. Shaving sucked in comparison. I have an appointment on Friday so that all of you are aware of the status of my girly bits. I can't wait. I'm that excited to have my hair down there yanked out.

LOL after watching Glozell's NADS video on Youtube I'm definitely too much of a wuss to try wax!
I do have a friend who runs an electrolysis shop, and she has done several bikini/full leg jobs...but you'd have to be comfy with someone getting up in there with a big old magnifying glass. Plus it takes time, you have to keep going back for awhile...and it can hurt a bit and swell at first.

I'm way too chicken for waxing, I don't like anyone up in my business, and on my legs I can't stand to let the hair get that long. I'd love to get laser treatments for my legs more than anything, I have some seriously hairy legs and have to shave all the time. It's blond but I look like Edward in the sun, it glitters. You'd think there'd be better technology, I don't think lasers are very effective if you're glow in the dark white with blonde hair.

I tried waxing once and I got terrible ingrown hairs and "razor burn" ... it looked worse than the hair I waxed off ... which, obviously isn't good, lol.
I would love to have laser hair removal, but just haven't gotten around to it ... and also it's kind of pricey, so I'm waiting for a good deal. Right now, I use a product called Coochy (from Amazon) and it is the only product that doesn't produce razor burn for me.

I can't keep up with shaving... ugh. I have to shave EVERY DAY it grows back so fast. And I have sensitive skin, so the bumps are a problem for me, too. I want to get it all waxed so bad, but I am too shy!!!

I don't even like the ob being there. Waxing isn't for me lol! I could probably handle it if it was someone I knew. My husband has one of those beard trimmers and he had bought another. So I just use the old one and it doesn't cause the bumps/ingrown hairs. It doesn't shave all the way to the skin though. I just shave and if its not completely to the skin I don't care! No one should be looking there anyway lol!
Let me just say I used my husbands face razor the one with the thing that comes out to trim your face. OMG it cut me to hell and back. My husband felt so bad hahaha It hurt like hell. So DO NOT use one of those.

Oh I have used a mustache trimmer for mine before. I agree, Cindy......it gets it done but not all the way to the skin. Better than nothing.

ummm I don't get much out in the sun in a bathing suit (WA, so not always very very warm here) but when I do I just shave.....I would love to get a wax.....I am not shy, been in the medical field for 20+ years and figure people that wax probably see is much of the giurly parts as an ob does so it's nothing but a thing to them LOL!

I shave, but oh man have I wanted to try waxing for the longest time and just take it all out! I spoke about it to the hubs last week, and he has expressed that he's willing to fund it, LOL. I should've asked for laser hair removal all together and see if his generosity will remain!

I shave. I do not the bumps because I have been doing it long enough that it stopped. I don't even need to use shaving cream any more from doing it often enough and long enough.

Hi Amber - I bought and tried the NO-No last summer. I tried it once - and the stench of my own hair burning - was literally making me GAG... it was just horrible - and even after bathig - could still smell it... I immediately called the company - and had no problems getting full refund. The NO-No - was definitely a NO-NO for me!!

It seems like my skin is getting more and more irritated with the shaving (or I am just doing a half assed job and not paying attention) but I am for sure looking into waxing. The thought of not shaving for a few weeks through just to be able to wax drives me batty, but it'll be worth it.

I stick with a razor mostly, though I get my eyebrows waxed or threaded every so often. I'd get a bikini wax if anyplace around here did it. I'd go for a Brazillian if I could find it. Just to save some time this summer. I don't mind shaving my legs, they are easy but bikini line requires more attention to detail & takes longer so I wear little bathing suit skirts mostly & don't have to think about it at all.

LOL Brook, I've known women who go au naturel...and once I got used to it, it wasn't any big thing. Except for the one who didn't do deodorant either Didn't like to sit too close to her.

tried No-No several years ago on my legs and it's a piece of junk
![]() i bought a Viss IPL machine years ago and it does work if you use it regularly like every 2 weeks. hair that grows back are thinner and takes longer to grow. but i am lazy and haven't use it for months, then the hairs do come back, but still not like before where hair is dark and thick. works best on upper lip, finger hair (yes i have those). legs took a bit longer. bikini area took so long that i gave up. i noticed hair that grows back are softer and fewer, but nothing dramatic ![]() |
