I still go to DST sometimes...if I want to see a magical horse with a baby photoshopped onto the the scene like it's riding bareback through a forest full of fairies and mushrooms
![]() (oh jeez, was that mean??) Despite my snarky comment, I too prefer to drama free zones of the local store forums like SSD here ![]() Where is everyone "hanging out" on facebook though? I don't have any scrapbooking connections through facebook...Do you guys like/fan designers? Or are you "friending" fellow scrappers? |

![]() I guess I'm in the minority because I actually miss DST, at least the DST it was in the early days. Yes, there was occasionally drama but having an open forum and gallery added a lot of balance and variety to the digi community that I think we've lost a bit of now that everyone is back to store forums. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a digi "home" but I also miss having easy access to a wider variety of styles and ideas. I think it was good for the industry as a whole to have one place where everyone came together. It pushed everyone to be better. It's sad but in a way DST became a victim of it's own success. It became too big for people to keep up with or feel connected to and then all the slowness issues didn't help either. Then Shannon abandoned the site and eventually they sold it and that was kind of the end. It'd be nice if there was a central site again but I don't know that anyone really wants to take that on at this point given all the problems that came up at DST. |

I was not in digi-land for that much for a few years until this spring I started getting into it more and coming here, cause I was looking for a cozy, little community. I really don't look at hardly anything at DST anymore, it's not the same people hanging out there. I loved when Shannon and Eric owned it! ![]()

I know a few people have mentioned it already, but I just wanted to add a little note about Me So Scrappy. If you want to see all the New Release highlights for the past several weeks, you can go to the main blog site, then on the right hand side choose "This Week We Love" and it will show all of the recent posts!
There is bound to be something new and different for you there, we try to choose a real variety of products! |

I agree it would be nice to have a all-around place. Sometimes I'm looking for something specific and I don't really care whether it's SSD or not as long as it works.
That said, I don't think I could really hang out in more than one place, so the current situation is fine with me. Friending designers on FB and subscribing to newsletters from other stores kind of covers my (not very pronounced) non-SSD needs. I never went to other places, so I don't know about the drama, but I used to be part of other drama-plagued communities (fanfiction, predominantly) and I. Don't. Miss. It. We don't always agree here, but we can discuss things instead of arguing and calling each other names. Wub SSD.

What I didn't like about DST was having to sort through all the stuff I didn't like (including fantasy LOs!). ALso, even in the new release section, there was so much sub-par stuff posted that I got tired sorting through the junk to find the good stuff.
However, I do feel completely disconnected. I somehow missed the transition to FB! I guess because I'm only one one team, which is also "independent", that it just passed me by! Krystal - thank you for the links! Can I ask a dumb question (to all of you)... ![]() I always took "FRIEND" to mean "FRIEND"...as in, hey, we mutually enjoy each other's company ![]() |

I'm also wondering about the FB stuff. I'd love to be involved.
And Becky, you summed it up perfectly for me. Even when DST was in its heyday, I still looked at the individual stores for new releases because there was a lot of junk on DST that it was hard to see all the good stuff. I used to shop at 5 stores but the other 4 went downhill or completely to fantasy. Now I pretty much only shop here and buy templates from Kay and Lynette.

Yep! I pretty much only shop here and I buy my templates from Cindy, Janet, and Kay and have my eye on some of Lynette's. (What I love is that Cindy, Janet, Kay and Lynette all have very distinct styles.)

As far as FB, maybe I'm just not on it often enough, but I don't know that I agree it's a replacement for DST. Yes, there are tons of scrapbookers on there but I rarely see products or layouts in my feed - it's usually more personal updates. I know I haven't found out about any new designers or sites that way. If anything, I think blogs have somewhat filled the DST void, like Gallery Standouts or the Daily Digi but it's still not really the same. |

the only reason i post at DST is because i know people look at the gallery. and because i'm a creative chick at TDC. i also post my designer stuff in their product gallery. but not as much as i would have hoped. when it comes down to it, SSD has been home to me for like, 3 years (: and probably 85% of my stash is from here. |

I think it all comes down to that little tab at the top - called "community".
It's not possible to feel like part of a "community" that is the size of the WORLD, with all of the different interests, styles, and products contained within. Store sites like this one have successful communities because we're all bonded together by our common likes (the designers here!) and styles (more "traditional"), and the community is appropriately sized so that we all feel like we really know and care about each other. When we post layouts, we get genuine comments. We watch each others' kids grow. It's that feeling of being apart of something that has drawn us all here, IMHO. Which is probably why blogs and FB have emerged - now they serve the purpose of being "informed", vs what we get here, which is community ![]() |

Yes. Also, this is pretty much the best online community I've even been a part of, when it comes to friendliness, eagerness to help and lack of drama.

Yes, between this and the popularity-contest (instead of merit-based) awards for best page in such-and-such a category, I decided to quietly walk away and explore store forums instead. But I do miss a single place where scrappers could touch base. I miss seeing many "faces" that I used to see regularly at DST. Not that I was much of a chatterbox then, but still, you kind of got to know who was who and followed a few layout artists that really inspired. |

![]() ![]() I'm glad others feel the same about the old DST when it was good. I thought MSA tried to kind of recreate that at one point, but they seem pretty dead over there now too. And Me So Scrappy- checking that one out. So much new stuff to see, I totally appreciate all the links everyone! I agree about sifting through all the stuff that's just okay. Both layouts and products, but especially products. It would be awesome to be able to connect just with designers and scrappers that you liked, lol. Like a personalized gallery. And whoever got my hopes up about being able to get this months Daily Digi kit for $5, I forgive you. Maybe I'll subscribe for a month... but I don't have much of a scrapping budget right now! Okay...now I really need to get scrapping on those challenges so I can settle in here at SSD. And I need one of those cool name siggies... |

In the early days when digi-land was smaller I enjoyed DST. Then it exploded and then I think it imploded lol. Once it got huge it brought in a lot of just plain rude people to put it bluntly. I still upload my layouts there but I probably have been in the forums once in 3 months. I miss the days when it was a smaller nicer community b/c it was a great place to find out the where's and what's of digi land.
MSA got off to a pretty good start but then it sort of fizzled. I still like to browse the gallery there better than DST though. But I don't feel like I'm missing too much b/c SSD is where I've always been and always wanted to be anyway ![]() As for Facebook, I have lots of digi-friends ![]() ![]()
