{{{HUGS}}} to your family Val....you may want to ask the staff at the hospital if they have a Lay Me Down To Sleep photographer.....
https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/
If I searched right these are afiliated photographers located near UofM
https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/find-a-photog/

she may not want them now, but like Amber said, one day she might want to take them out and will cherish them.

ETA: I guess I am late abput the whole photography thing, but I though I would leave the klinks anyway~

I'm so sorry, Valerie. My step-sister lost a baby a few years back, too. It was very hard on everyone. I bought her a necklace to wear with my niece's name on it. She wore it a few years to help her.

I'm so sorry! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, especially the baby's parents. It is such a difficult time.

When we lost Tyler (20 weeks), the nurse brought him in to us (only after we asked, they didn't offer). His little body was too fragile for us move him around but she held him on my lap for us and we spent a few minutes with him. We took only one picture. I wish we had taken more. That picture has meant a lot to me over the years even though I don't really share it with people. I wish we had spent more time with him but this was 11 years ago and many people were shocked that we even wanted to see him, let alone spend time with him. People were also surprised we named him, oddly enough. I think we've made big strides in infant loss since then.

Oh Valerie. This is just so heartbreaking. A baby no matter how small is a human being and today I think you really felt that. Hugs and blessings to your family.

Oh that's a beautiful idea. I might think of doing something like that.

So be open, listen and let them talk to you. She will need it and so will her husband. Sending hugs to all of you.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. No one wanted to talk about Tyler. Friends and family would skirt around the topic entirely. I know they just didn't know what to say but saying something as simple as "I really don't know what to say" is better than avoiding the topic entirely. Talk about her, use her name. Tell them if something makes you think of her.

Totally agree about talking about the baby. Im not shy and mention Colin and tell my story every chance I get. When it first happened people did avoid the issue because they were afraid to make me cry but what they didn't know is I would have cried anyways.

One thing I have been meaning to do and just never have is name a star after Colin. That is another idea for a sweet meaningful gift for them. I also ordered a christmas ornament with Colin's footprint on it and I love pulling that out every christmas and hanging in on my tree. HEre is where I got it from- http://www.glassetchingfever.com/categories/Ornaments/

When my son died we let 18 baloons go and tied notes to them from each of us. I got pictures and scrapped it. On my sons birthday we did a dove release and then this year we are thinking of doing a butterfly release. I also started a blog which I dont advertise much...mostly because I dont want people to think I am crazy because it is where I "talk" to my son. Things like that really helped me cope. Another thing you could do is have a memorial and have all your friends and family light a candle for your niece and write a note to be put in a memorial book for them to look back on when they feel they can handle it.

I just spent a couple hours with my SIL and she is doing very well. Sad, but able to talk about things and even says what a sweet time it was sitting in her room holding her all day.

Unfortunately... the Now I Lay Me Down people didn't show up. Grr! They did take some pics of their own and they are ok with that. Isn't she a sweet little peanut?
