Default What do you wear to weddings these days?

I'm so fahion uncoordinated! We are going to a wedding in October in Los Angeles. It's a 3pm wedding at UCLA Catholic Center followed by a reception at the Faculty Center. The groom is my husband's friend from college. I haven't met the bride yet so I don't know her personality or style. We live in Florida - I've never really even been to LA so I have no idea how different the styles might be out there.

I have not idea what is appropriate to wear. I'm thinking it's not a formal gown kind of thing because of the time of day and nothing on the invite said formal. I don't necessarily want to wear a dress that I would wear to work (which are all black in some way or form)

I'm in my late 30's and I'm a size 16-18 W so I have to keep that in mind and dress my age. I know the groom is pretty conservative.

What would you wear?

Given that it's in the afternoon, I wouldn't think they would be doing cocktail dresses. I think you'd be safe in a nice dress or a skirt and blouse. Or a pantsuit, unless that's a no-no in a Catholic setting. (never been in a Catholic church so no idea on that one).

A pantsuit would be ok in a Catholic church.

I am going to a wedding on Saturday and I have no idea what I am going to wear either. The couple are both computer geeks that work with my husband....and they are having their wedding and reception at a Cooking school! WERID! I will be keeping an eye on this thread as well...

California in general tends to be a lot more casual than the east coast and I don't think the UCLA Catholic Center is that fancy of a place so I'd probably go with a nice dress or what I'd call church clothes. A nice pair of pants and a nice top would probably work too.

I'm in the same boat. The wedding is at a somewhat fancy place but I hate dresses. I'm okay with skirts but they have to be long because I have tattoos that would need covering (on my calves). I was thinking of wearing some fancier pinstriped or plain black dress pants or a more feminine pants suit. Ugh, I hate dressing up.

I have no church dresses, but I'm sure I can find something. I'm guessing I'm looking for something with color versus black but not stare at me kind of color - right? All attention on the bride. That's still the way it goes, right?

I'd go black pants and a 'fall' colored top...orange, plum dark red...understated is always in.

I'm going to a wedding on Saturday too and have NO clue what to wear. I'll probably end up wearing pants and a shirt. I own one dress and I REALLY don't feel like dressing up that much.

There is a really wide variety of what's acceptable to wear at weddings. A blouse and skirt or a dress would work just fine. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of wearing slacks to weddings, but that is just personal preference. As for the color, I don't think it really matters. Are planning to buy something or find something you already own?

I just had a wedding in July but luckily it was just at a friend of my husband's house. Still, I didn't know what to wear either especially since I was 7 months pregnant at the time. I think for weddings anything is appropriate that is nice and classic but still comfortable as long as it's not white of course lol. I ended up wearing a nice black skirt and a somewhat formal red top to the event and felt pretty comfortable. A sundress would have been to casual but I almost went with this anyway (glad I changed at the last minute). Good luck!

Color-wise, I think as long as you don't wear white/ivory, you're good.

The last few weddings I've gone to, I've worn black. I guess you can't go wrong with a "little black dress". *LOL*

I'm going to a 4pm garden wedding in a couple weeks. I found a black sheath dress with a high neckline (but sleeveless) that has beautiful red roses on it. It's really classy. I don't normally wear dresses either, so when I buy dresses for a one-time shot I usually go to the Goodwill in the really classy part of town.
