How do you eat your popcorn?
I just got a new air popper - I wanted to get away from microwave popcorn all the time and be a bit healthier. Of course, the popcorn has absolutely no taste when air popped! So, I need ideas of what to put on it. My kids like the flavored salts, which I'm sure aren't healthy at all... any brilliant ideas?

Garlic powder or ranch dressing mix. Really decadently, melted butter.

If it's in the microwave, I like the Homestyle Pop Secret. If I'm at the theater I like it drenched in butter and salt.

I should get an air popper. That sounds good. I just use microwave though.

Well, honestly I like butter & salt, but as it's very not healthy, I rarely ever eat it.
I haven't tried these, but I like the cayenne idea. http://www.fitsugar.com/Healthy-Popc...cipes-18106283 http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog...r_150_calories

We just had popcorn for our supper... haha...
We only use a crazy popper machine... with coconut oil and popcorn... and then a little butter and salt (Himalayan salt, ground) at the end... yum!

At the theater or sporting events or farm shows... with lots of butter and salt! Yum.

crazy as it sounds, we just eat ours fresh from the air popper ... plain. and everyone loves it like that, even my boys.
although I would love to know what sort of air popper you use. I'm in the market for a new one.

Our air popper was CraZy and we ended up with popcorn everywhere and it was really inefficient. Then I saw that you can just microwave popcorn kernels in a brown paper lunch bag, so that's how I make it now. 1/4 cup kernels in the bag, fold the top twice, and microwave dry. I add butter and salt. I figure real butter is better than whatever junk is in the bags anyway.

We love our air popped pop corn! I melt 1TB butter and 1 TB coconut oil and drizzle it over the popcorn very slowly while stirring. Then I sprinkle it with sea salt.

Maybe I need to get a spritz bottle - I like the idea of coconut oil but I don't like how the popcorn got wet when I tried to add butter today.

I love our air popper. I just do a bit of butter and salt as well. My kids LOVE popcorn from the air popper and prefer it hands down to the microwave bags.

We're Whirlypop users here. DH almost always is the one to make it and uses a little bit of peanut oil and popcorn salt in the pan while he's popping and we usually eat it just like that. I want to add butter because I adore butter on popcorn but usually I avoid the temptation.

Butter and salt, both of which get more negative press than they should healthwise, IMO. No air popper, just a big pot on the stove. I'm tempted to try the brown bag in the microwave idea though.

I don't use an air popper but cook it on the stove in a pot with some coconut oil then sprinkle with a sucanat, cayenne, chlii powder, garlic granules, cumin, sea salt mix - kind of sweet and spicy mix.

I have that air popper and use this Odell's Original Popcorn Butter - sadly it looks like it's unavailable to purchase right now. But it has just one ingredient: Fresh Pasteurized Cream. I also add salt or sometimes white cheddar sprinkle topping.
I can't stand microwave popcorn anymore. I used to love it, though, so I'm not sure what happened. Last edited by maryinaz; 03-10-2014 at 05:54 PM. |

I use the spray "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" butter and either salt or the flavored Kernel Seasons.
The spray makes it easier to cover more than drizzling melted butter for me.

The trick is to not have too much liquid (butter or oil) and to pour slowly at an absolute drizzle... like a tiny thread of oil/butter dripping down while someone actively stirs the bowl. It helps to have the butter in something with a little indentation for pouring, like a liquid measuring cup. I think over time you get used to the popcorn being slightly damp (unlike microwave popcorn) and some pieces are more wet. We fight over those pieces!!! LOL.

Not a huge popcorn fan myself, but if you like it slightly sweet, sprinkle some icing sugar on it after its popped.

The Odell's that I use specifically does not make the popcorn wet. That's one of it's selling points. That is IF it was actually for sale.

my kids are takis fans.
A nasty red chip...so they make takki popcorn, chili pepper, garlic, lime juice, onion powder, and more chili pepper and sugar...red gooey mess with big smiles and oh my gosh I love this from friends! |

We make our own popcorn salt (just grind regular kosher in a coffee grinder we have set aside for spices) so that we can get the salt into the nooks and crannies. We mix it with garlic or other spices for our own popcorn spice mixes. But it also helps that we just pop on the stovetop with a little coconut or peanut oil in a big pan (sort of like a giant jiffy pop).
Occasionally we toss in some butter, too, but sometimes, we're happy just with the spice blend. It does require a little time to retrain your mouth when you're so used to the heavy flavor of the microwave variety. I can't eat it or movie popcorn anymore because they taste so 'chemical' to me now. |

I don't like the microwave popcorn any more... but will have to try the pop it in a lunch bag trick. We buy amish popcorn, it's my favorite. We pop it is on the stove and add a little salt.

We use an air popper and we eat it with nutritional yeast a lot. I like garlic and chili powder too. We just have a cheap popper ( it's actually my daughter's ) but it works great.
