Default If you've lost weight....

how do you keep the drive to keep it off or to keep going to get to your weight loss goal? I'm so not motivated to keep losing weight other than I'm sick of being "fat". I get this painful twinge in my upper chest when I think about the food I want and what I can actually have and feel utterly depressed that I can't just eat what I want.

So tell me...what have you done to get through a diet and reach a goal or even just what helped you stayed focused on your goal?

I need to lose a lot more (like 50 pounds) but I want to try to get 20 pounds gone in 10 weeks so I can get some smaller clothes for summer vacation...help me out!

I'm having fun using DietBet. I like that it has short goals -- just one month at a time. I can do anything for just four weeks. If I focused on everything I wanted to lose, I'd get discouraged! A few weeks is much more achievable for me.

I'm right there with you Juli and have lost about 15 pounds in the past few weeks but it hasn't been easy! One thing that works for me is telling myself that I CAN have anything but do I really WANT it. 9 times out of 10 my answer is no I dont want it and then I feel good about making a good choice.

I'm a huge believer that you should be able to eat what you want in moderation. I will also say, you are more likely to successfully maintain your weight loss if it's slow and steady. It really needs to be a sustainable lifestyle change. Have you tried a program like Weight Watchers where you have to weigh in and track your food intake/exercise?

For me it was finding that YUMMY thing that I wanted to eat, that I could eat, and still lose weight. Something to look forward to that is tasty and enjoyable. I believe wholeheartedly that true diet change can't happen with deprivation, it has to be sustainable for life.

For me, when I was losing weight, it was my morning 2% Fage Greek yogurt with cherry. It was sweet and creamy and since I was eating healthy it WAS a treat. Also my morning cup of coffee, mmmm. Then in the afternoon I looked forward to rich & yummy avocado diced up up with lime juice and salt on top. In the evening I saved the best for last, a chocolate covered frozen banana for dessert. I knew I had those things to look forward to daily and that helped me stay on track.

I wish I knew, too! After about 20 pounds (which is a ton of work for me to lose; it comes off soooo slowly) I tend to plateau badly. It's so hard to stay motivated when it's all work with nothing to show for it. One thing that helps me a little is trying to be more active when I'm feeling frustrated with counting calories. If I know I burned 500 calories at the gym I might eat an extra 250 calories that day so I don't feel quite so restricted, or I might save them up and then order a higher calorie meal when we go out to dinner that weekend.
