We've always just called the grandparents Grandma and Grandpa, and when we need to differentiate we add first names. My kids called their great-grandparents Great-Grandma Betty and Great-Grandpa Marty. When I was growing up we did the same that my kids do, but we used Bubbe (Yiddish for Grandma) for my great-grandmothers.

In my family- I at one point had 9 grandparents alive! Both my kids had a great-great-grandma alive for the first few years of their lives! So cool!
My dad's side we always called them Nanny & Papa. My Nan's mom was Great Grandma Leeila. My Mom's Parents were just Grandma first name & Grandpa first name (step) and Grandpa first name & for some reason we never called his wife by anything other than her first name! I even had a Great Grandpa (first name) & Great Grandma (first name.) My kids call my husband's parents Papa first name (his mom & dad are Grandpa/ma (last name)) & Grandma firstname (her parents are GG (1st name.)) My parents (divorced) are: Grandma 1stname & Papa first name and Papa T & Grammie 1st name.

For my mom's parents, we called them Ama (oldest cousin couldn't say Grandma) and Grandpa. Occasionally he was Grandpa George or GG, but that came more from one particular cousin. My dad's parents were Granma and Grandad. As kids when we needed to clarify which grandma we were talking about we called my dad's mom Granma with the bracelets because she always wore gold bracelets.
