I agree with just about all of this, but I don't think we even need solids. Those can be pulled from any other kit. As for patterned papers, 5 is a good number, or maybe just 4, as long as they are themed. As for the elements, a themed flat ribbon would be good.

I think solids are still a good idea. Think of the beginning scrapper that may not have many kits at all that are looking to scrap about a particular theme. They may not have solids that would go with the kit. Just having a couple solids in a small kit is a good idea. In my beginning days I was very hesitant about using items from different kits... heck, even 16 years later I still am! Putting in 2 or 3 solids would ease that frustration for some. I have several mini kits from over 8 years ago that have no solids... I still haven't used them.

I like the idea of a base kit with smaller add-ons as well.
