Default True Crime Spin off - Unsolved mysteries

Like many other children that grew up in the 80s I watched unsolved mysteries religiously (it's no wonder why I ended up with crippling anxiety) (I also realize my true crime love perhaps happened a little earlier in life and then went away a bit? haha)

Anyways there was a story that literally haunted me forever..

I can still remember sitting there watching this one.

Were there any that got to you really bad? Any that happened nearby?

Creepy! Did you know someone like that?
I don't remember specific episodes, but I do remember the host's voice.

This case happened about a half hour drive away from me. I remember watching the episode so many years ago. That guy's voice was so creepy!

I believe this was solved fairly recently. I've heard that they knew who did it all along but just couldn't prove it.

My all-time favorite show is Forensic Files. This case haunted me for a long time. It's scary to think there are people like this just roaming around in plain sight!

I watched Unsolved Mysteries back in the day, but I prefer to watch true crime when they've been solved. I hate not knowing . . .

There have been a few local murders that have been covered by true crime channels. Of course, the biggest one was Ted Bundy being arrested on Cervantes in Pensacola.

Bud and Melanie Billings

Murder at the Barber Shop

Judy Buenoano - The Black Widow

Blue Moon Killer Donald Hartung Sr.

Prime Crime: Young Mom Washes Up On Shore Near Florida Naval Base

Ashley McArthur
The interrogation of her husband was a pretty interesting watch as well.

Two teen brothers kill father Derek and Alex King

William and Christopher Cormier, twins who killed a newspaper reporter over Magic the Gathering cards

Geez, there's a lot of crime here!

Thanks for all the links, ladies! I'm going to have a lot to "keep me busy" for awhile!!

These are not really "unsolved" mysterious, but we have friends that have been affected by horrific crime. Our dear friends lost their son in law to a random shooting in 2019. They caught the person that shot him, but the shooting itself was random. It happened in a small town of 350 in our county.

Last month a friend's 23-year-old son was shot while asleep in the middle of the night. They have no idea who did it - he was a good kid. This happened in a town of 25,000 near us.

A few years ago I got on a Ted Bundy kick and watch and read all I could about him. I don't remember ever hearing about him during the 70's, which was probably a good thing, as a young girl I'm sure I'd be freaking out, even though he didn't come close to Illinois.

I love True Crime shows and podcasts. True Crime shows, Unsolved Mysteries Criminal Minds, NCISverse, Cold Case Files. And there are a lot on Hulu. I was asked to stop watching and listening to podcasts, but what can I do, I enjoy it and makes scrapbooking easier. And I learn a lot which I can share to my daughter, especially once she drives on her own.

Or hiding scared to death. I remember going to UWF (where Olivia went to school and now works there) and it's a very woodsy campus. There was always talk about Bundy back then. It was the early 90's, and how he would charm young women. I was always scared to walk alone, but sometimes I had to. Now the campus has grown so much, and while it's still woodsy, there are lots more building, lights, and people.

I love watching Forensic Files, Cold Case Files and other shows like that. Quite often I will have the TV on the Discovery ID channel as background noise.

As for a crime near me, a nun was murdered in a hospital chapel in 1980. I worked at that hospital and knew her... as well as the murderer. It only took 24 years to arrest and convict him for the murder. But according to this book, he was the prime suspect from the beginning. And, when I read this book, I found out that I as an employee at the hospital was a part of the investigation. The police had requested the names, addresses etc of every single employee at the hospital. The majority of the employees were ruled out immediately because of not being on hospital grounds during the time they suspected the murder happened. Thank goodness!!! The case has also been documented on a series called The Lake Erie Murders (Season 2, Episode 4 "Black Sabbath").

This murder happened in my town but the killer was not unknown. The trial had to move to another jurisdiction because of the publicity.

There is no documentary of any kind about the latest murder in my county but I'm sure one will be made someday. It is an unbelievable story. In fact, the 3 people involved in the murder were just sentenced in federal court the beginning of the month. The police work on this case was amazing. There were at least 6 different law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. The victim was reported missing at 1:48 p.m. on 4/26/2022 and the body located at 10:40 p.m. on 4/27/2022. The court document is so interesting to read.

I saw another case on The Lake Erie Murders (Season 2, Episode 8 "Killer Night Out") that happened in a small town I lived in during the time of the murder. Didn't know the victim or the person they eventually arrested for it... didn't even know it happened at the time!

I loved unsolved mysteries too.

When I was in high school, there was a boy who was younger than me who was murdered. It was a huge shock because where we lived was considered very safe and we all walked the path where he was found.

https://case-law.vlex.com/vid/com-v-pursell-891677137

The boy who was killed, Christopher, had some learning disabilities and socialization issues. Looking back now, I can see how he would have been an easy victim as he didn't have many friends and could often be seen walking or riding his bike alone.

As bad as it is to say, what I remember best about him, besides his murder, is how irritating he could be. I think he would have done better today, as there would have been more help for him and more understanding of what was wrong with him. But back in the 80's he was just the weird kid who drove us crazy on the bus.
