(I love teaching teenagers -- it truly is my passion. But the job is not today what it was when I decided to go into it, and if I had been training for what it is now, I would have likely changed my major. School shootings being just something we have to live with, constant political attacks on teachers and public education in general -- this is not the job I was signing up for back in 1999.)

If I were 19 again, I would not take the criticism from my classmates so seriously. (We had to evaluate each other after teaching a lesson to our classmates. I later went on to teach elementary students for 33 years and never encountered some of the behavior from college classmates pretending to be elementary students. I guess this was a way to prepare me for behavior issues when teaching but it was totally unproductive.
