So I am in my 50's and I am trying to figure out how to scrap my childhood and teen years -- back then there were not a ton of photos taken but I want to some how create some pages of my life besides birthdays. Does anyone have any ideas how to approach such a project?

I would use Cindy's All About Me templates!! They are pretty journal heavy so you could get away with not using a lot of photos - you could even incorporate photos from the net instead of actual photos of yourself (thinking things like music/tv shows/toys from your childhood)

Maybe also a project life template format with cards and a few pages? Flergs and WendyP have monthly kits.

I agree with all of the above. All About Me templates are a great start.
Maybe also some single story pages. Things you remember off hand. As you scrap those pages, other stories may come to mind. Use pictures of places or things, maps, etc instead of photos of yourself. I for instance, scrapped a page about my childhood home, but used the Google Maps street view photo of how it's changed from when I lived in it. since I didn't have photos handy
