Default Does anyone do a Sunday Brunch?

We normally don't make a big deal out of meals, but today I made biscuits and gravy for the first time. Does anyone go all out and do sunday brunch or dinner? What do you make?

No.
Our family aren't big breakfast eaters, so we're happy to just have our regular cereal. We do often have pancakes for lunch on a Sunday though.

Not consistently. The kids love to have what they call 'big breakfast' on Sundays though. We'll have bacon and/or sausage, hashbrowns, eggs, toast and fried cheese. On weeks when I'm adventurous we add pancakes or biscuits and gravy to our meal too. I love biscuits and gravy so we have it fairly often. It makes a great dinner too.

Russ makes Daddy breakfast before church each week - a mushroom fritatta, bacon or sausage and hash browns. It gives me the morning off I ♥ it!

I'm more from the south I guess. We do a Sunday supper. I cook a big huge meal earlier than normal dinner. Then there is all the getting ready for the work week/school week for the rest of the night.

DH makes us brunch once a month. He likes to make crepes. He does either crepes stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage & cheese or a kind of crepes Florentine (scrambled eggs with chicken, cheese, spinach & then hollandaise sauce on top) and then we follow it with fruit crepes with jam, yogurt or chocolate sauce depending on whats left from dessert during the week. There is usually a salad involved as well.

We don't "do" anything regularly because I thrive on spontaneity. LOL! Sometimes we have brunch after church, usually we go out to Panera Bread, Einstein Bagels, or a local diner to eat. Sometimes we do big breakfasts at home that hold us over through lunch and then we eat Linner or Dunch because we're hungry earlier than usual... and later than usual. That messes everything up though because then I need to have a Dinack or Sninner somewhere around 9:00 since we ate so early.

I don't, but breakfast is seriously my FAVORITE meal. I wish I could afford the calories to have a big breakfast every day. My favorite thing in the world is going out to dinner to a restaurant who serves breakfast all day.

As far as breakfasts I make, one of our favorite treats is a southern specialty - Chcolate Gravy & Biscuits. I don't make it often because I could make myself sick on it eating the entire pan. LOL

1 cup sugar
5 tbsp flour
3 tbsp cocoa
milk
butter
vanilla

Add enough milk in a skillet to moisten sugar, flour, and cocoa. Stirring constantly, add more milk and cook to desired thickness over medium-low heat (add more milk as needed). Add approx 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tablespoon butter. Serve over hot buttered biscuits.

Fried cheese is a grilled cheese sandwich, right?? I have heard it called that.

We don't really like breakfast that much in our house, so we just do the normal thing. We do usually have either a Saturday or Sunday big supper of some kind though. We love pancakes, but only for dinner.

And here's another that I've made for Christmas Brunch in years past (Just realized I didn't do it this year! Boo!)

Ham 'N Eggs Brunch Braid
(Pampered Chef)

4 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup milk
8 eggs, divided
1/4 tsp salt
Dash ground black pepper
1/4 cup red bell pepper, chopped
2 Tbls sliced green onions with tops
1 tsp butter or margarine
2 (8 oz) pkg refrigerated crescent rolls
1/4 lb thinly sliced deli ham
2 oz cheddar cheese, shredded (1/2 cup)

Preheat oven to 375°F. Place cream cheese and milk in Classic Batter Bowl. Microwave on HIGH 1 minute. Whisk until smooth using Stainless Steel Whisk. Separate 1 egg using Egg Separator; reserve egg white. Add the yolk and remaining 7 eggs, salt and black pepper to Batter Bowl; whisk to combine. Chop bell pepper using Food Chopper. Add bell pepper and onions to egg mixture. Melt butter in Generation II 10 inch Frying Pan over medium low heat. Add egg mixture; cook, stirring occasionally, until eggs are set but still moist. Remove pan from heat. Unroll 1 package of crescent dough; do not separate. Arrange longest side of dough across width of Rectangle Baking Stone. Repeat with remaining package of dough. Using Baker's Roller, roll dough to seal perforations. On longest sides of Baking Stone, cut dough into strips
1 1/2 inches apart, 3 inches deep using Paring Knife (there will be 6 inches in the center for the filling). Arrange ham evenly over middle of dough. Spoon eggs over ham. Shred cheddar cheese over eggs using Deluxe Cheese Grater. To braid, lift strips of dough across filling to meet in center, twisting each strip one turn. Continue alternating strips to form a braid. Brush lightly beaten egg white over dough using Pastry Brush. Bake 25-28 minutes or until deep golden brown. Cut into slices with Slice 'N Serve.

Makes 10 servings

Yes!! It's goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood. It was a tradition as a child... I could hardly wait to go visit my grandma because she'd always make it for us. LOL

And FYI, I've tried to make it a little less sinful with things like splenda and skim milk. Don't bother. Just enjoy the insanely high sugar and calorie content and then walk a little extra on the treadmill. LOL

We try to do breakfast at least one day on the weekend, if not both. It's a bit harder during the winter when DH works nights and his 'weekend' is during the middle of the week.

We love breakfast foods though.

This morning we did breakfast burritos (just me and dh)
sometimes we do pancakes, sausage, eggs, or waffles or french toast, or homemade cinnamon rolls, or biscuits and gravy, rarely we have something that's an 'egg' dish (omlettes/fritatta/etc) because I don't particularly like eggs. I like to mix it up and do something different every time.

not on a regular basis, but when I do it is eggs, toast, and bacon.....sometimes I make pancakes (but not everybody eats them, so it isn't very often)....I love biscuits and gravy along with scrambled eggs and toast but I only make that every now and then too cause only 3 of us eat it (so the other kids eat the egss and biscuits)

We have never been a big breakfast type family. We always go out to lunch with my Brother and SIL and his family after church on Sunday though.

Fried cheese is basically melted cheddar cheese. We use mild cheddar but you can use a sharp if you generally prefer sharp. My step-FIL is the one that introduced it to the family. You slice a block of cheese really thin, put it in a pan and 'fry' it (basically, you melt it). I discovered that shredded cheese works much better than sliced cheese so I use shredded now and my MIL has started to use shredded cheese too. It really is nothing more than melted cheese but it is soooo good. I thought my DH was an idiot the first time he made it. I liked it though and my kids love it. Declan will beg me to make fried cheese and then he'll eat several servings of it.

We are starting to do family dinner one Sunday night a month with my side of the family.

As for breakfast - I try to make something homemade on Sundays like pancakes, omlettes, waffles; but it just depends what we are doing and what time everyone gets up. I'm in the "everyone gets up later than mom" years with my kids.

Not on Sundays... DH always works radio 8-noon on Sundays - so he is out the door by 7. So kiddo and I grab something quick before church... and then when DH gets home around 1:30, we'll have a late lunch or wait a bit and early dinner...

However on Saturday, we always have a big breakfast... DH and kiddo make eggs, bacon and toast... or once a month or so we will go out for breakfast...

I love this! When I was little my Grandmother always did a Sunday dinner early (she was from the South).

I've found with just 3 of us in the house that a special 'sunday dinner' just confuses everyone. So we stick to the same routine.

I really hate breakfast, so I am not too too inclined to cook a big breakfast, sometimes I make brinner and DH is thrilled.

I didn't even know about the concept of Sunday brunch until I watched How I Met Your Mother, haha When we visited New York some years ago we had a "traditional" brunch at a neighborhood diner of pancakes, bacon, biscuits--and mimosas!

I'm sure some families over here do brunch, but as for us, brunch mostly means having lunch at around 1030

That's where the tradition came from I believe. My grandma use to do it when we were growing up. And with church we are not home for brunch. So we come home grab a light lunch and then clean. Then I make a fun new recipe or grill something nice for an early dinner. Usually about 1600. Everyone sits round the table together and talks about the upcoming week and what the plans are. I didn't even realize I started doing it till years afterwards. We normal eat at varied times depending on that seasons sports schedule.
