How much is your data worth?
One of my back-up EHD's died It was my scrapbooking/photo back-up. I got a quote and I just can't decide if it is worth it.
For those that have done it how much did you pay and how much did you get back? |

do you have the photos saved elsewhere? If so I'd not worry about recovering it personally..

Is it just a back-up of your photos -- as in you have another copy somewhere else? If so, skip recovering the broken EHD and just replicate your other copy so you have at least two versions of your photos again.
My DH had his hard drive recovered once -- it was around $1000. It wasn't a simple problem and it had to go to a specialist to be "rebuilt" in a clean room. He recovered everything though. |

If it's truly a backup, you shouldn't need to restore it. Everything on there should be duplicates. I'd just buy a new EHD and backup everything again.

If you have all the files saved, else where, I wouldn't recover... just get a new EHD and then make a copy from the other location...
However, do you know what happened to the EHD? Does the "disk" inside still spin? If so... I'd pay $19.99... My hard drive went on my computer a few years back and as long as the disk still spins, you can try recovering the data yourself... one of the designers I used to CT for had a hard drive failure and I told her about the adapter, she wrote a tutorial on her blog... if the bearings went, then you won't be able to do it yourself... but if it's the boot sector, there is hope... http://keepinglifecreative.com/tutor...my-hard-drive/

I *think* everything is uploaded to online storage or on my older laptop that hubby uses, but I can't be 100% sure.
It makes a clicking noise, I sent my tech guy looking at it that blog post and while he didn't have that cord he did do something similar. |

If I had the money, I'd pay almost anything to get my data recovered from my broken EHD. I don't have back ups anywhere, and I had some important firsts on there that I lost (my son's first bday and his first hair cut to name the biggest). I never did have the money - and when I kind of did, I didn't know where to go. I still have it (it broke like 4 or 5 years ago). I have NO clue if anything was even recoverable back then - who knows now, so many years later. I'm assuming data can degrade over time, but idk for sure. But yeah - if I could afford it, I'd pay well over a $1000 to get those photos back!!
