Thanksgiving Menu
This will be the first year that I"m actually cooking Thanksgiving dinner at my house, and I'm trying to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.
It will just be us and a friend of ours, so it isn't like we'll have a huge group of people to cook for. I don't need a LOT of food, but I woudn't mind having a few different dishes. So, what dishes make it Thanksgiving for you? |

Thanksgiving is all about the dressing for me! This year I made this Sage, Sausage and Apple Dressing and it was *amazing*! So moist and yummy!
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/f...ipe/index.html I also tried making homemade cranberry sauce for the first time. It was so unbelievably easy that I can't believe I've relied on store-bought for so long! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/f...ipe/index.html And these mashed sweet potatoes made my hubby (who doesn't like sweet potatoes) have seconds! http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2...-by-stepecipe/ Good luck, Libby! I'm sure whatever you make will be yummy! |

The only thing that really says Thanksgiving to me is stuffing. I still make my grandfather's recipe that I've had every Thanksgiving since I was a child. He's been gone for 14 years now and every time I make it, I remember him and how he always let me help him make it.
This is our menu this year: Appetizer Cheese and Crab Stuffed Mushrooms Soup Coconut Curried Butternut Squash Soup Main Roasted Turkey Breast Creamy Mushroom and Turkey Gravy Herb Stuffing (grandpa's) Oyster Stuffing (Wes' favorite made by his step-mom) Shaved Brussel Sprouts Garlic Cauliflower Mash Green Beans with Lemon Sauce Dessert Pumpkin Mousse with Salted Caramel Sauce

We do ours potluck style, but there are a few dishes I KNOW will be there (a strawberry pretzel dish that is SO good, cheesy potatoes with a corn flake topping, etc).
I hate to shamelessly plug, but if anyone is still looking for a non-pie dessert, try this one: http://digitaleramom.com/2013/11/19/...can-poke-cake/ My family is SUPER picky, especially my brother, and he ate like, 3 or 4 pieces at once. I now have 4 Thanksgivings that people are asking me to bring it to, and several other friends asking if they can pay me to make the cake for them, because it was SUCH a hit... so... highly recommending it for non-pie folks. (end selfplug).

My MIL's Thanksgiving dinner usually includes turkey, cheesy potato casserole or mashed potatoes, salad, plain green beans or broccoli, Sister Schubert's rolls, pumpkin pie, and sugar cream pie.
My mom's Thanksgiving dinner usually includes turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, homemade stuffing, praise salad (made with Jell-o and mayo --- an old family recipe), rolls, pumpkin nut bread, a fruit tray with dip, pumpkin pie, and brownies. Our work Thanksgiving (which is all I will have) is going to be Chicken Tortilla soup, Black Bean soup, sandwiches, chips and stuffing. (I think someone wasn't paying attention to the theme).

I don't cook Thanksgiving dinner. I buy it. This year instead of going out to eat we are getting together with some friends and doing the 'take out' deal from our favorite BBQ place. We're having
pulled pork BBQ Half a BBQ chicken rack of ribs BBQ baked beans green bean casserole savoy sweet potatoes cornbread pumpkin pie salad |

My sister and I are going to be hosting dinner for eleven and, right now, I'm not exactly sure of what it's all going to be. My Dad and stepmom are insisting on getting the pre-cooked turkey from the grocery store and I'm not sure what it comes with. We're going to figure that all out on Saturday but, I'm assuming, there'll be mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing with it. Other than that, I'm planning on:
Dinner: Asparagus casserole Broccoli/cheddar bites Corn Cranberry sauce Squash Dessert: My sister's homemade brownies and pumpkin bread I'm going to make an apple pie and chocolate pudding cake Whatever anyone else decides to surprise by bringing |

We will have about 20 for lunch at my son's house. The typical menu is:
Turkey Dressing (not stuffing) Cranberry sauce (from a can... it's a thing) Sweet Potato Casserole Squash Casserole Mashed Potatoes Corn Casserole Some other veggie dish or two Fruit Bowl Deviled Eggs Rolls (has to be the cheap by the dozen brown & serve 3 piece rolls) Pumpkin Pie And a ton of other desserts as yet to be determined We do potluck, but sign up for specific dishes. Except desserts. That's a free for all. |
