Default New life for the Republicans...GIRL POWER!

Bravo to McCain and his staff for playing the gender card and picking a savvy woman as his VP! I don't know much about Palin but her speech today really boosted some new life into the Replubican party!! I totally think this country is ready for a female VP and love that she has background in the military with her National Guard experience!

An excellent choice I believe. I have been reading up on her and I like a lot of her stances. I think she will be good for the Republican ticket!

I've been watching her for a few months - first heard about her when she had her Down's Syndrome baby 4 months ago. Excellent choice - I'm very excited!

Well I guess I'll go ahead and be the dissenting opinion...

Honestly, I find it mildly offensive as a woman that he is so obviously playing the gender card. It just screams gimmicky to me and as a Hillary supporter it's kind of slap in the face that he would ever think that this woman could be on the same level as Hillary was. Plus it seems like an odd choice given how hard he's been on Obama for being young and not having much experience and yet he basically chooses the female version of the same thing? I don't know, given McCain's age, there's a good possibility she could end up president and well I simply can't imagine her being the leader of our country, at all.

I still have a lot to learn about her. I admit she was completely off my radar. So I'm reserving judgement.

I am worried about her experience, but I can't say she's any less experienced than Obama. It's a different kind of experience. She hasn't had Washington experience, but he's had very little of that himself empirically speaking. She has governed a city and a state, so I'm not completely put off. Still it's bothersome. The national and international stage is very important.

I do think it was a strategic move to choose a woman, but in the little I've read about her I think he also picked her because she's a down the line conservative and his base was frustrated with him. She mollifies that a bit.

If nothing else, this was a brilliant political move. His campaign succeeded in doing what I didn't think was possible...taking the spotlight off of Obama's speech and the DNC.

Unfortunately for both of them, that spotlight is now on some ethical issues on her part. She has less experience than Obama so I think it will be interesting to see how McCain handles that criticism of Obama now.

I am very pleased with this pick. I think both candidates picked running mates that are their counter balance. I mean come on .... Obama (a young black man) picks an older whit guy w/ experience. It makes sense for McCain to chose a women for his running mate - so far I am behid this ticket 100%

It feels like a ploy to me, just like Obama picking Biden did. They picked ppl that counter-balance them, which SHOULD be a good thing, but personally it screams PLOY to me. So that sucks,

But I also know nothing about her. So who knows.

Personally I know nothing about her, and definitely will be reading up and watching the news about her this weekend. But the one thing that I will say is that I believe a governor is a good choice as a leader because a governor is like a mini-president of their state, they've been in charge of entire state unlike senators... so they understand the inner workings of the role as president/V.P. Her lack of experince in Washington DC means nothing because experience as a governor is even better in my eyes. However, that isn't saying that I like HER... I don't know her at all. LOL But I am eager to hear more about her, just as I am sure we all are.

lol, I need to stay out of political threads. My husband teaches AP Politics and Gov't, so I get enough of a dose of it already, lol .... I will say, that I am happy that America will either have a female VP or an African-American president. We've come a long way.

I wasn't thrilled about McCain but I vote on the issues not the speeches so Obama was out of the question for me. I like Sara Palin a lot and with her on the ticket I think I can pull the lever in good conscience. I hope she turns out to be what she seems to be on the surface - so far I do agree with her on what I've read of how she runs Alaska.
