Default Dumb question...popcorn balls

I am craving popcorn balls...when I was little my mom made them every year for Halloween. My problem is I'm craving them but I'm not motivated enough to actually MAKE them lol...so I keep seeing the Act II popcorn balls at wal-mart and I'm wondering if anyone has had one? B/C I don't want to pay 4 dollars for a pack of 12 if they aren't any good kwim? Anyone had one?

Well, Nikki, to be honest, they are nothing like homemade...They are hard and kinda crystal-ish.
I bought them one year hopping they would be as good as my great grandmas and was very disappointed-I couldn't even get the boys to eat them and all but one went in the trash can.
They might taste OK if you have never had the real thing...but since you have had the real thing I bet you would be disappointed too.

yum! there used to be this old lady in my small hometown that made them for all the trick or treaters. they were seriously the best i've ever had! they were still sort of goey, not hard. she was old when i was a kid so she probably passed away by now. my mom has a recipe. i'm thinking about making them. too bad you're not close to me, i'd make some and share, lol.

You could always get them and if you don't like them, hand them out as halloween treats.

Very Similar...My grandma didn't cook the syrup so long to make it carmel-ish...& then she added orange food coloring...they are yummy!

I don't have a candy thermometer though. I do have an instant read thermometer . . .
