ACDSee
For those of you who have ACDSee...do you really use it? I've been debating forever if I should get it...I need to find some way to organized...Since I lost just about everything when my EHD died I figure it's time to start organizing now...Thanks...

oh my Rachelle, I do use it. I use it more than PS actually. Not that I use it for making LOs but I use it instead of Windows Explorer for browsing folders and such.
Have you tried the 30day trial of it?

I had it given to me by the company (I owned my own site at the time, they gave me a copy in exchange for banner advertising on my site), and actually sat down and organized it all, but then I slacked off. I lost it though when I had to restore my computer (and the email with the serial code was lost as well), so I purchased it right away - I totally don't regret it, even though I don't use it for organizing. I actually prefer to browse my files in ACDSee more than through Windows (the plus for me is that I can preview PSD files, which Windows isn't capable of doing).
If I wasn't so lazy and didn't have SO much stuff, I'd start organizing again...because I did use it that way when it was categorized. LOL! |

Yes.
We've had a couple recent threads re: ACDSee if you do a search in the forums for it. |

I use it every day -- for organizing, browing, unzipping. Pretty much everything.

I don't. I'm one of the weird ones that just prefers my way. I use it to unzip..I do tag, but tend to use my way because it's faster for me. And because the program tends to mess with my PC, especially if I have PS open (and I have a fast computer), I end up shutting it off 50% of the time anyway, so I don't use it much.

Back to the original question though.... I LOVE ACDSEE! I literally cannot scrap without it. If it ever went away for some unknown reason, I would just die... I'm almost as dependent on it as Meems. Its my drug of choice, lol!

I ACDSee. It helps me find what I want quickly. I rarely make a layout without it!

Yeah, I had that but it only previewed the thumbnail, not a big preview in the filmstrip view. Plus, Windows only lets you do the filmstrip view sometimes and that makes me crazy...I like to view all my files that way - I'm not sure why - so I *heart* ACDSee for that, lol!

I can't scrap without it. Honestly. I had mine go down a few months ago and I didn't scrap for like 2 weeks until I got it restored.

You'll get lots of varying opinions here, Rachelle. LOL I don't have it, but I used to and did not use it. I hated tagging. LOL
I can just see LeeAndra shaking her head at me.

I used it more now that I have changed my tagging style. I'm a kit scrapper & don't really ever go looking for all my crumpled ric rac ribbons, even though I could. I started tagging whole kits by style - boyish, pastel, autumn, etc and now I find ACDSee a lot more useful. I still detail out the alphas so I can pull a 3D plain felt green alpha out of any kit, but unless it is an actual element pack I no longer tag everything by item type. I find it a lot more usedul this way.
I'm also in the middle of tagging all my photos & I can see where that is going to get a lot of use once I am done. |

thanks...i'm such a kit scrapper that i'm wondering if it's even worth the $$$ but then i think maybe i wouldn't be a kit scrapper so much if i was organized and everything was tagged...

I'm a kit scrapper usually, and I still use it a ton! It's usually the first thing to get opened. There's a thread a week or so ago--it had tons of opinions. Try searching for it. I learned a lot of new things about ACDSee that I didn't know.

I just got it and I'm just organizing my stuff as the info I got from digiscrapinfo said to do. Still have a lot of organizing to do before I start tagging, but it has helped me realize I had a whole lot of excess. Seriously do you really need 5 previews of the same kit? |

Give me strength ladies. I'm going to start tagging more of my scrap.

I got it when I was still new to scrapping (heck - I think I'm STILL new). I usually scrap by kits too so I make a preview of each kit and then I tag everything in it. I also try to attach a color to most things. Then, I find the kit I would like to use in the preview folder, right click it, and go to the file and pull out what I want. I then usually add embelishments that aren't in the kits so I just go out and look at all my "pink ribbon" and then find something from another kit that matches and use it if that's what I'm looking for.

I haven't had time to tag stuff lately, but I sure do prefer looking for stuff in it with the hover previews rather than in windows

I love it
I just make a habit of unzipping and then using Kaylaugh's method to quickly tag them. If I have a couple of extra minutes, I will also color tag the papers. I find if I do that just after I unzip, I never get behind. HTH |

I think I need to look into this. I've let myself get behind on extracts and now things are a bit messy. 'm not a kit scrapper, but for some reason I feel like I need to keep the kit together plus put the alpha/elements/paper all broken out in my folders too. So I now have 2 copies of everything. Ugh. So much work. I sat down to scrap tonight and have spent the last hour just organizing and I'm not even done.

I used to have it on my old computer and I never used it. I've been tempted to get it again to try to start organizing better, but I know I probably wouldn't use it this time around either.

I use ACDsee continually. Don't think I would want to scrap without it. Aside from tagging and searching. You can also view fonts and temporarily load them into you program. View brushes, too. I like to tag sites with a keyword- that way I can easily find kits for challenges at those sites. Love that I can preview the PSD files. I keep all new stuff in the download folder until I have it tagged then move the kits to their individual designer folder. Digiscrapinfo.com is a support site for using ACDsee-the video tutorials got me up and running in no time.
One important thing to remember--if you have tagged or cataloged in ACDSee DO NOT move those files around in Windows Explorer because ACDsee won't recognize the move. I do all my organizing and moving inside ACDSee. Downside- and it is a big one. The program freezes frequently "Stops Working" and has to be shut down. Irritating but I like the program so much I jsut reboot it. Had tried the fixes for this but didn't seem to work. Maybe this issue has been resolved in the new version 10. Sorry to be so wordy- I do love this program. Now I need to find that thread you all mentioned and maybe learn some more tricks. EDIT- Oops- already have ACDSee 10 the new version must be 11 Last edited by roxyrenders; 11-09-2008 at 10:10 AM. |

In the search field - like if the designer tags a file alpha when you search alpha Picasa will pull it up - Easier than tagging the files

sorry to keep bugging you LOL but what do you mean if a designer tags a file alpha? do you mean in the EXIF or IPTC data?
