I scrap exclusively on a laptop...
I've had a Sony VAIO for about 4 years and totally LOVE it. At the time of purchase, I did I ton of research and found that Toshiba and Sony had the best laptop screens. I have to say that my Vaio screen is amazing and is a pretty dead-on match to my printer without any callibrating craziness. Now my Sony is showing it's age (the battery is totally dead, the power cord is loose, my tab key is a little wonky) and I need to update. What do you have and love? No Mac rec's please. I've considered the switch and for many reasons I've decided to stick with a PC for now. Thanks!!! Debbie |

I don't know much about laptops...I hated my HP desktop but my BIL absolutely looooves his HP laptop. I loved my Dell desktop until it started slowing down and nothing would fix it and their customer service sucks - well, that's not entirely true...the first few times I dealt with them they were great and helped me fix what needed and when they had to replace parts, it was fixed within days...but the last few times I just wanted to slam the phone against the wall, they were SOOO frustrating.
I'm not really any help - my first laptop that I'm getting is going to be a Mac...I've decided to make the switch, lol. |

I just got mine back in November, but so far I love it and usually scrap on it instead of my PC. I did a lot of research on them before I bought one (first laptop).
I got the TOSHIBA - L355-S7831. 17" screen I got mine from Newegg.com.

Thanks! I've seen that mentioned before. Do you find 17" to be too large? I have a 15.4" and it seems to be the perfect compromise between portability and screen size for scrapping. I don't travel with my laptop, but I do carry it around my house, take it to Starbucks once and a while, and take it to a monthly crop. As it is mine isn't all that light and I'm sure the 17" is much heavier, but my not so much more that it would make a huge difference? What are you thoughts?

I bought a new laptop back in April or May. I went with an HP, I believe it's the dv9000 model which is a 17" screen. I've had HP in the past and really loved them, so I stuck with them. No problems with mine, runs super fast, love hte big screen, etc etc etc.
ETA: I went with the 17" because I like a nice big screen. I'm so used to have 2 17" monitors here at work, that going home to a single 15" just wasn't an option for me. So I went wtiht he 17" even though it's heavier and whatnot.

Oh I will say that my BIL's laptop (the HP) is a widescreen - though I'm not sure what size exactly - and it's SOOO heavy. I wouldn't want one that heavy personally, it wouldn't be comfortable to carry around anywhere. My other BIL has a laptop that is probably half the weight, but I don't know anything about it (he builds computers himself and I'm not sure if he built that or not?).

TraceyFish - do you print from your laptop as well? How is the color accuracy?

I went with the 17 because of the extended keyboard. I use my laptop at work and entering grades was a PITA without a number pad.

I have a Tobisha at work and I really like it...mind you I don't scrap on it-since I don't travel with it unless I have too...but it has been a good computer, I've had it around 4 years.

My dad, my sister and I all have had Toshiba laptops at one time. Mine was a good laptop, it put up with a lot of use.
![]() Mine was a 15" model, I really can't imagine hauling a 17" one around - it was heavy enough as it was. I know some people have had problems with finding bags large enough to carry a 17" model as well. If you're not planning to carry it around a ton, it would probably be fine, otherwise I'd recommend sticking with a smaller size. |

I am in love with my Dell XPS. 15 inch screen with a fast graphic card. I picked what I wanted and got a laptop from the Dell outlet. If you sign-up for their newsletter, you might get a coupon for 15%. Using the outlet, I saved tons of money and ended up with some features I didn't know I was going to get. I have a web cam and a card reader-built in.
I put it to the test this weekend. A Photoshop project with 270 layers and not much of a slow-down. I like the beefy-ness of the XPS. It just feels good. |

oh and I'll add...I bought mine on QVC and it COMES WITH a bag. i worried about finding a bag the right size too, so that was another thing that made me choose that particular deal.

I have had several different laptops, but I keep coming back to Dell. I currently have a Dell XPS 15" with all the bells and whistles- great graphics card, extra RAM, fast CPU, etc. - and it handles everything- got the VISTA ultimate. It handles everything wonderfully. My husband was just looking at their laptops again (mine is only 6 months old, so I don't know why), and they have an even better processor and RAM setup that can handle things even faster than mine does.

My Toshiba dinosaur turned 3 this month and my print still matches up with my monitor. I use it for everything, including gaming. I don't have 17" screen...don't really feel that I need one.
I previously had an HP and had bazillion problems with it...enough that the lemon policy actually kicked in. |

I have a Toshiba Satelite A200 which is great - I love the card reader in it and the widescreen. Previously I had a Toshiba Satelite Pro L30 (lets say I was ripped off by the seller with that one and I will never ever go back to them again - they said it was new but it was at least a year old with a user already on the laptop etc)

I got a Dell Inspiron 1720 17" back in July. Right after I got it the HD died and I sent it back to Dell and had it back in 5 days. No problems (knock wood) since. I do everything on it, and print from it and the colors seem fine to me.
