$275 for having you prepare my taxes?

What happened to $40 fees?
Next year I'm going BACK to Turbo Tax.

there was a thing on the news the other day that one woman went to jackson Hewitt and was charged like 500 dollars there.(part of that was for a refund anticipation loan) I paid 30 dollars and prepared my own on TurboTax. I love it because it stores all my info from the year before as well as the returns from the previous years so all I have to basically update is the info that is new for this year.

I went to H&R Block one year and will NEVER go back. I paid like $150 and I was only a college student, working at the Guard part-time and selling very little Mary Kay. Now I do it through H&R Block online for free.

Yeah it was through H&R block.
She told us the fee (of course we added on a $30 peace of mind fee but still...)
and we just sat there. I wanted to walk out of there but for some reason I didnt.
Yep, back to Turbo Tax next year fer sure!

That's absurd!!! We use taxact.com, and it costs us 16.99 to prepare and e-file our federal AND state taxes...if we only needed federal it'd be 9.99. It took all of about 30 minutes, and we get our refund on Friday.

I pay our CPA $200 every year. He does an awesome job and always gets us a lot of money back so I don't complain.

We pay about $100 every year to itemize...but it includes our son's simple tax filing too...and the guy comes to our house...which has its advantages because I ALWAYS forget something for taxes...and it's a matter of walking into another room in the house to retrieve it. lol This guy has done our taxes since my first job in the mid 70's.

wow, that is CRAZY!!!!

I'm lucky, my dad is an accountant. I know I could do our own taxes, but it's nice to have someone who knows what he's doing do it or "help" us do our own.

I've used computer programs before but they started crashing my computer so we started taking our stuff in to H&R Block. The first year it was $120 for my return because I had to file for 2 years (it wasn't on purpose, but I never got around to doing my taxes after the program I bought crashed my computer, and my taxes were a simple T4 - fill in like 3 spots and you're done...LAZY), DH's was only $40. Then it started going up.

We're going to take our taxes to a Chartered Accountant this year to see if we can get more money back. It'll probably cost us more, but if it saves me having to pay in taxes, I'm all for it, lol.

Geez that's ridiculously expensive Mandy! We've used TurboTax for I think five years now. Usually I buy the software and install it on the computer and e-file that way but the software went up in price. So this year I did it online and it only cost $14.95 for our federal which included the e-filing! I let it figure our state but then just copied the info over to the Kansas web site since they have free e-filing rather than pay the TT fee to do it. We are supposed to have our refund this Friday woot!!

I've used Turbo Tax for the last 6 years and love it. Our taxes are pretty simple & straight forward, so I don't worry about missing anything with them. PLUS, they waive the $29.99 fee for active duty military.

Meh, it's worth it for me. I pay $270 every year, that's for the return and peace of mind guarantee, and no refund anticipation loans, just an e-file. But, the one year in the last 10 that we used tax-cut instead, we got the wrong amount back and got a bill a year later (after we were divorced I might add) for $600 that we had to pay back. Scrambling to come up with that kind of money with my ex while I was a single mom was hell. I've returned to h/r block and won't look back.
