Default Gift Ideas...

My SIL just had a baby boy, and I'm looking for an good gift idea! She has LOTS of clothes for him, because her sisters have had boys, and they have given her everything. This is baby #2, so she has all the necessary things, like a swing, slings, playpen, stroller, etc.

I'm looking for something unique. Something that she probably won't have. I'll probably get him a toy when we go out to see them this summer, but for now I want to send *something*, you know?? Oh, and I live 18 hours away, so I need something fairly inexpensive to mail because I can't hand deliver.

I am thinking of sending a GC to M&M Meat Shops (are they in the States too?). It's not really a meat shoppe, but more like a frozen food aisle with really yummy frozen meals. If I lived where they do, I'd take a meal over to her, but since I don't I thought they could use it on a night when she is just wiped and has no time/energy to cook something. Good idea? Dumb idea??

What else could I send??

Those are great presents. Check to see what she has locally though, I have never heard of that one. We just sent one to a girl on one of my CTs as she had her second boy. Or else a GC to buy diapers, I mean, who can't use more diapers.

That's actually a great idea, but you might want to check what's available locally to her. I know make your own freezer meal places are popping up everywhere, and I know some are doing ready-made versions, but I've not heard of the one you've mentioned.

We have M&Ms here, I think it's a Canadian thing. And if she does have one, I think it's a great idea! Their food is great!

M&M's is a chain up here in Canada. Most places have them, and I know they do where she lives (we used to live there).

That's totally an awesome idea. My girlfriends and I were going to do something like that for our friend who visited this past weekend, but she couldn't fit a cooler in her car to get it all home.

You could put together a small hybrid mini album for her to slip photos of the new baby into. Then at the end, slip the gift card to the food place in there like a little surprise

Seriously - a gift cert for diapers or formula (if she's using it). My friend didn't have to actually buy her own diapers for her little guy until he was 7 months old and she loved it!!! In fact, she told everyone to get her GC's for diapers for Christmas, birthdays (hers included), etc. if they wanted to buy a gift.

another idea is getting her a GC for a cleaning service. PRICELESS when you're a new mom.

the best gift I received as a new mom was a bag filled with stuff for me(and some for the baby). My best friend got me some lotions (washing all those bottles wrecks havoc on your hands LOL), my favorite candy, some bubble bath (to soak in the tub when dad gets home and can take care of baby for half an hour), a baby book, a gift card to get take-out from my favorite restaurant and a disposable camera for taking pictures of baby and all the visitors who come in and out the first few weeks

Yep, I'd get something for the Mom too. If she has everything for the baby already, then I'd spoil her with a GC for a manicure/pedicure, or a haircut, or a spa therapy day, or something she could use in a month or two once the baby is settled and she can leave him with a sitter for a couple of hours.

My most favorite gift that I got was a foot/hand mold... not just the type you press their hand or foot into, but the type that makes a 3D mold of it. I love it.
