My kids dont really have regular chores. They are just expected to clean up after themselves as my husband and I do and if everyone does that then the house will stay clean. Occasionally we ask them to do other stuff like mop or sweep. My husband does the dishes nearly everyday because it messes up my hands so badly (between us having hard water and my skin being so sensitive from the soaps I cant do it). Here is a list of the chores we do on a regular basis:

kitchen:
wash/dry dishes
put dishes up
wipe off counters/appliances
clean out fridge
sweep/mop floor

living room:
sweep/mop floor
dust
pick up anything that is out of place and put it where it belongs

bedrooms:
sweep/mop
dust
make beds
put up clean clothes & put dirty clothes in hamper

bathroom:
sweep/mop
clean tub
clean toilet
clean sink

animals:
feed and water animals
brush animals (cats and guinea pig have long fur)
clean guinea's cage and add fresh bedding as needed
clean kitties litter boxes (there are two so they dont get as stinky)

whole house:
do windows inside and out (about once every two to three months)

that is our household chores. My husband and I take care of alot of that but the kids help when they are home. Alot of their time right now is spent at school though.

14 year old - does his own laundry (wash, dry, fold and put away), make bed, clean room, clean upstairs bathroom (walls, floors, shower & toilet), dishes (dishwasher and by hand), mow the lawn, garbage to the curb; and occasionally, he has to sweep and mop.
10 year old - separate her laundry, load/unload dishwasher, make bed, clean room, sweep and mop, put clean laundry away, wipe down sinks with Lysol wipes (new chore, her choice)
6 year old - separate his laundry, make bed, clean room, put clean laundry away, set table, clear table, help weed the gardens, clean window ledges (new chore, his choice)
4 year old - separate his laundry, make bed (still learning this one), clean his room, put clean laundry away, set table, clear table, clean baseboards with rag (new chore, his choice), help Mommy do anything else.

sometimes the younger three will help fold their laundry too, after I take it out of the dryer.

WOW and my kids think they have to do a lot. I'm going to make all THREE of them look at your lists...and then THANK ME for the little bit that they are asked to do!

My son is 3 years old and has "assigned" himself chores!! He loves to help his mama do things around the house, as long as he gets a high-five after! lol!
This is what his "chores" are:

feeding the cat
tidying up the shoes on the shoe rack
folding the dishtowels, washcloths and his own clothes when I do the laundry
helping me empty the clean dishes from the dishwasher
clearing his dishes from the table and washing his side of the table & his booster seat
helping me sweep the floors
picking up his own messes and toys

and whatever else he feels like helping me with when I'm cleaning. He's such a helpful little sweetie!

WTH am I doing wrong???????? LOL!!! I can't get my 7 year old to do ANYTHING. I can take everything away and he still won't do stuff for me - except he will dust as long as I let him spray the pledge. Drives me nuts!!!

My little guy helps me pick up his toys and clothes *most* of the time unless he's really tired and cranky.

Feed the cats
clean the litter box
set/clear table
unload the dishwasher
load dishwasher (working with the 10YO on this)
bring down laundry (I'm just teaching them about sorting)
vacuum
clean the bathroom - they fight over who gets to clean the toilet, but neither one will clean the rest of the bathroom.
General maintenance of their room & the playroom (where all the toys are)
Other random chores as necessary

Emma's only 3 (almost 4) but she has to pick up her clothes and put them in her laundry basket, put her clothes away after I fold them (she'd do it but it's not done right LOL), clean the table when she's done eating, pick up her toys at the end of the day, help me dust, and help me dry dishes. She's at the age though where she'd do it all if I let her.

man after reading that I think my kids do nothing!!! Everyday I have them all except for the 3 year old do 1 chore for me. It's like take the trash out. Take the recycling out, put the clean dishes away, and wipe off the counters. Occasionally I will have one of them clean the bathroom. Looks like I need to make these kids WORK!

I wanted to add that the only thing my kids do everyday is make their bed, "clean" their room (aka making sure all the dirty clothes are in the hamper), pick up toys and clear the table (only thier own mess and my oldest DD usually does DH and mine). My girls ONLY sort/fold/put away their own laundry and I do thier laundry on Saturday's. My DS only sorts his own laundry and I do his on Thursday. Each night one of them will get the lpates down (usually DD 11), one of them will get the cups down (usually DD 7) and one of them will get the silverware (usually DS).

I vaccume the living room and kitchen daily and my two girls do it on the weekend.

OMG u guys are lucky! if i could get Miss almost 4 to just pick up and put away half the toys and mess she creates, i'd be ecstatic! That said, i nag her bigtime once or twice a week to tidy her room, to hang her towel up in the bathroom every nite after bath and occassionally she will get the cutlery outta the kitchen drawer before dinner.

At keast this thread has made me feel better about the eternal mess that is our house; i need more kiddy help!!!
