Default Waxing poetically about being a young mom...

42 gazillion bonus points for Nathan today! He and I were just in the car having a philosophical discussion about Skittles (wth.) and it just struck me as a conversation I would never have had with my mom. I've been thinking a lot lately about my childhood (it was good, btw) and I've been very aware about HOW MUCH I remember from Nathan's age (almost 9) and how I had better be extremely careful about things I say, etc...because he will remember a lot.

Anyway, Tabatha and I have a very young mom. She had just turned 17 when she had Tab and just turned 18 when she had me. Thing is, though...she never seemed young or immature to me. I never remember thinking, "she's so cool, what a young mom, etc..."

I don't feel like I should be old enough to have a son turning 9. I wasn't THAT young when I had Nathan. I was 20...not like I was still in high school like my mom. But anyway...

I turned to Nathan and said, "Do I seem like a grown up to you?"

And he answered, "No."

Immediately I felt panicky. I always make him brush his teeth and wash behind his ears. The other day when he said, "Holy Crap!" at the playground, I corrected him. I need to be a LITTLE BIT grown up, kwim?

I said, "Why don't I seem like a grown up to you?"

And he answered, "Well I know you're a grown up, but you're nice. Not like most grown ups."

And score one for my first born.

Too sweet! Huge brownie points...

My DEAR daughter (almost 4) said to me, "Mom I'll always love you no matter what you do..." like I had done something awful... I started rethinking the day! Turns out it was from a fave book Llama Lllama Red Pajama. Whew!

My kids all think I'm older than dirt. Even the one I had at 22.

My son (9) tells me that I'm still a kid because my parents are still alive and I'm their kid. But when they die, I will then be a grown-up.
