Default Some Spa Treatment

I have a gift card my hubby got for my birthday last year (yeah, I figured since my birthday is coming up in a couple weeks I should use the gift he got me LAST year ). And I'm not used to the whole spa scene, in fact I have never been to one (I've had a pedicure before but just at some little place inside our local mall).

Anyways, they offer so many services but I think what I really want is just a spa pedicure and possibly a haircut. But my question is, for these type of places how much gratuity are you supposed to give? Do you go by how much the service cost? I'm clueless!

My cut and color usually costs about $125, so I tip $25. That's 20%, which is what I usually try and tip for anyone providing me with a service.

Call and confirm that they even accept tips. My salon (also a spa) does not allow tips at all. I love it!

I felt like an idiot last time I went to the spa - my treatment cost more than I thought it would and the girl at the counter had to ask me to put a tip on there...I didn't leave much because we had withdrawn all our money from our bank account and changed it to USD for our trip the next morning, lol!

She asked you to leave a tip? That's rude, a tip is supposed to be for good service. I have never left 20% for something like that. Maybe that's the norm, but it seems like quite a bit to me.

She wasn't either of the girls that did my treatments...just the girl at the counter. And it wasn't like "um, duh, you didn't leave a tip" it was more like "how much of a tip would you like to add on?" because I was using debit and they didn't have a tip feature. But I still felt like an idiot...

I must be mean--when I'm asked that, I typically say, "None. Thank you." I prefer to settle up with the stylist personally if I'm leaving a tip.
