Default Suggestions: My mom's 70th Birthday

My mom's 70th birthday is coming up in a couple of months...originally I wanted my sis and I to take her away for a fun weekend just the 3 of us...but sis already bought or made her some HUGE gift (she is keeping a secret...but whatever)...so it's just me...

dh suggested I take her to a day spa....what would I expect to find there...and any idea how much $ it would cost for her and I to go...would it be cheaper to take her to a bed & breakfast and go antique shopping for a weekend??? I have a feeling it would be cheaper for the B&B...

...or do you have any other ideas? I would love some mom & me time...but I can't afford to take her to Disneyworld. (drats!)

Thanks!

What about a day of pampering and a photo shoot afterwards with a local photo studio? You could preface it with a gift of a nice photo frame for her to open and have something in the frame saying something to hint at what you have planned and how important she is etc. Then have little surprises through the day with each thing you have planned. You know her of course so you would know what she would enjoy and could tailor it to fit that. I just know of all my favorite birthday presents I have ever gotten from my kids and my husband it was a photo shoot a few years ago of me, my husband and our kids.

Sounds like fun...I remember years ago we did something at Glamour Shots or something like that. Might be a bit over my budget there...but that does give me two things to think about. thanks!

Any one else have any ideas???

Mom doesn't want things to 'dust' or fill up her house...makes it a bit hard to figure out surprises for her.

An annual pass to something like a zoo or botanical gardens is also something to consider. I love going to those kinds of places and they are so expensive to go to more then once or twice a year paying a daily admission. If you buy an annual pass though it costs just a little more then one days admission for a family of four in most cases.

Then you have those gift of the month clubs where you pay once and they get a gift every month. Those are nice because you get a little celebration every month and it doesnt clutter or collect dust. They have them for so many things now not just fruits so that might be something else you could think about

If I think of anything else I will post those too.

My mom's 70th birthday is next month. I'm flying her best friend in from another state, putting a big ribbon on her and bringing her to dinner as a surprise gift. My mom is difficult to buy for so rather than buying her a "thing", I'm bringing her buddy to her.

Hmmm I will have to look into that...our zoo has too much walking for her (lots of hills)...but there might be something like a botanical garden I think about 45 minutes away....

Anyone know of different gift of the month clubs? I've heard of a BBQ one on some show...I'm curious if anyone else has tried one? That sounds like a good idea.
