OH NO! THat's awful!!! I am so sorry! My mom get's hives terribly at times and went to all kinds of doctors and allergists and they finally told her that she had this crazy weird thing where she can just bust out in hives for no apparent reason and there's nothing to be done about it other than to take the steroids if it gets really bad. She almost passed out once and they said that she could have died if we hadn't gotten her in to the hospital soon enough. It's crazy!

I hope that they can find something to pinpoint yours to!

yeah...they can just pop up at any time for her. It's been years since she's had them bad though. Thanks goodness! But it is scary not knowing what to avoid. I hope that you can really find some info about yours!

well i was able to get into the dr....well the dr. isn't there, but the nurse was able to see me. she gave me ANOTHER steroid shot, and took blood to have tested for allergies. Then she gave me another prescription for another week long round of steroids again..... dude i'm gonna be HUGE!

so i have to call in a week to see if the bloodwork showed any allergies...

i hope it does so i could get rid of whatever it is..... but who knows!

i'll keep ya posted!

allergies can defenitely pop up at anytime. I have used bandaids all my life and then one day I used one and it made the area under the bandaid and about three or so inches around it break out really bad and it itched like crazy. So for a small cut I ended up with a bunch of blistery type hives.

My daughter and I are both allergic to metals. Even gold makes me break out in hives. And man do they ever itch!! I bought my daughter a necklace that only had a metal clasp. I think it was like some kinda thread or hemp necklace...where the metal clasp was she broke out all across the backside of her neck.

Lauren - like Bree said - I broke out in mysterious hives and I could not figure out why. We had just got a new kitten about a month before I was getting hives, and I *knew* it couldn't be that because we'd had another cat for 1.5 years before getting this kitty. It didn't make sense that it was the kitten.

It got to the point that I was breaking out in 10-20 hive spots a day. Then we went to Bree's for a week, and in the car, my spots stopped itching. And the whole time I was at Bree's, I didn't get one spot and all my old spots healed! Within a half hour of me getting home, I found that I was itching like MAD and by the next morning I had about 5 or 6 fresh new spots. I got rid of the kitten a couple weeks later, and I've never had the hives again.

Now, Bree said that the doctor told me it was a hypersensitivity to flea bites (which he DID), but I don't believe it, lol. Because IF it was fleas, they wouldn't just die the second my cat left the house. They would have been on me, in my sheets, in my carpet, on my couch, etc, and I would have continued with the hives until I fumigated and all the fleas died. When I was tested for allergies, I didn't react with the "cat" prick, but it may have just been the wrong thing... You can be allergic to their skin oils, their saliva, their fur (or their soft downy fur under their main fur), even with how their body reacts to their cat food!

I also thought I couldn't be allergic to my kitten because I wasn't allergic to Meeko (who we got rid of only 6 months before getting our kitten Willow). But yeah, apparently I can because I could not stop itching or breaking out while having Willow!! I was soooo sad to get rid of her, but the hives literally stopped the day she left the house.

that's crazy!!! my children will seriously get rid of me if we have to get rid of Cooper and Lucy!!!

i already told dh that if i'm allergic to the cats, we're getting a dog (if i'm not allergic to them too!)

i have this bad feeling that the test is going to come up negative though and that i'm gonna have a mystery case of these buggers....

after i'm done w/ the meds maybe i'll try sending Cooper for a few days w/ my neighbor who i got him from, just to see if it makes a difference.

crazy wonky immune systems!

I agree with you there Lauren - getting rid of a pet is hard, even when its the only thing you can do. Ava was only 1 when we got rid of Willow, and she was sad and "off" for a couple days. She kept crawling around and looking under the couch, lol. Poor baby.

And yeah, the allergy test may very well turn up nothing. Apparently, I have no allergies. I didn't react one tiny bit to the cat test, lol... sending him away for a few days should tell you fairly quickly if its him or not!
