Default Hormones...

This may be TMI for some of you, so please feel free to quit reading here if you need to; I totally would not blame you - lol.

So I mentioned my hormones in the other thread...no, I'm not pregnant. Although I did take a test a couple of mornings ago.

My hormones are seriously going nuts. I'm still nursing Sadie who is 6 months old (and she nurses 4 times a day). With my other two, I didn't get my cycle back until after I quit nursing (9 months w/ Wes; 1 year w/ Claire).

But I have felt like I'm PMSing for the last 1-2 weeks. I have been aching (almost like cramps; not bad pain, just a dull ache). And I have been the biggest b*tch for the past couple of weeks. I get that way (b*tchy, and totally can't help myself) when I'm preggo, so that's why I took a test.

But I still have not gotten my period. Having pretty thick discharge (I know...sorry...so gross), but no period. I just wish it would either come on and get over with, or that the craziness of these hormones would go away until I actually do get a period.

Have any of you ever experienced this? It's so frustrating!

((hugs)) Kresta. I have, but my cycle is not regular and I chalk mine up to that. Usually once I start having the pains, I get my period within a couple days though, not 1-2 weeks. Sorry, hope it gets better for ya!

I have no idea sweetie. Maybe you should call and ask the nurse or something? GL!! I hope you get everything sorted out!

I'd defintiely call your ob/gyn and talk to the nurse. I was diagnosed with PMDD back in March, and they changed my birth control. Made a HUGE difference. I was SO cranky before. Like all the time but especially around PMS time. Like I'd feel myself being irrational and not be able to do a thing about it. I'd sit on the couch and cry for no reason.

So anyway, yeah call and just see what the nurse says. I was so afraid they were gonna laugh at me when I called and told them I was irritable. Like they'd say "well deal with it.!" I couldn't believe that they could actually fix it.

I just experienced this myself about two weeks ago. My baby is 5 1/2 months old and I am still nursing. I started getting cramps and feeling bloated and feeling pretty miserable. I thought for sure Aunt Flo was coming back. In fact, I felt so bad, I wanted her to come just so I could feel better. Well, she never came. The symptons subsided although I still get crampy on occasion. So I have been trying to figure it out myself. I wondered if I was ovulating??? I don't have any answers, but you aren't alone.

The hormonal thing that has been driving me crazy is losing my hair. For the past two months it has been falling out like mad. There is hair all over the place. I swear half the hair on my head is gone. It is getting to the point where if it doesn't stop soon, I am afraid I am not going to have anything left.

Thank you all for your replies.

Libby, I very well may end up calling my ob/gyn. I read up on PMDD after you posted about it. Sounds like me right now, but not sure it's an 'every cycle' kinda thing since I haven't had a cycle since before I was preggo w/ Sadie. I'll def. keep that in mind though.

Jenny, I'm sooooo glad you replied and can relate to what I'm going through. What a relief to know someone else has been through this. I'm really hoping the symptoms just subside, but if they were going to keep on until I had my period, I'd rather just get my period. Anyway, thanks for your comments. Oh, and I've been losing lots of hair, but 1) I usually lose a lot in the shower anyway (even when I haven't given birth in the previous year), and 2) Sadie is a grabber -- she grabs my hair and often pulls some out!

Kresta,

This happened to me!

I was nursing Parker exclusively and CONSTANTLY until he was about 8 months old. At around 6 months, I got the WORST case of PMS that wouldn't go away. Crampy, acne, bloating, moody, etc....it stayed for like two weeks and then....

you guessed it.

I got my period back and it stayed...got one every month, nursing him or not...until I had my IUD put in a few months ago

Great - so I very well may be getting my period during my week's stay at the beach! That'll be perfect!

It sounds like you're ovulating. A little bit after my second and even more after my third baby I get bad ovulating pain and very thick discharge and can get very angry and want to eat everything in sight LOL! My doctor assures me it's normal. Is the ache on one side or all over? If it's one side it's definitely ovulation. The following month the ache would be on the other side as we alternate tube sides each month.

You may be ovulating or at least your body it trying to get back into ovulating. I nursed Meri for 13 months and didn't get my period back until 1.5 months after I stopped nursing. But there were points where I felt like it was going to come back. But it never did. I noticed it did this around the time where she started feeding less or cut back on a feeding. Have you started your little one on solids yet? If so, she may be eating less breastmilk and your body is just trying to adjust and decide if its really ready to start ovulating. Keep track of your symptoms and as months wear on you may be able to notice a pattern to it and better predict when AF will show her ugly face!

Oh my gosh this sounds just like me the week before and during my cycle! I get SO irritable and just the tiniest little thing can set me off, I just feel so out of it. I've mostly noticed it in the last 2yrs since I had my youngest and had my tubes tied so I'm sure it has something to do with that too. I'm due for my yearly so I'll definitely be discussing this PMDD with my ob/gyn when I go.

{{hugs}} Kresta! I feel the same way now. I'm actually afraid to take a pregnancy test. Expecting my period by Tuesday next week, but I've been getting spotting everyday since last week. Awful stuff.
