Default lol...Mississippi weather..

I thought those of you dealing with the blizzardy stuff right now would get a kick out of this...from the National Weather Service...

Quote:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH
FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE REGION THURSDAY EVENING. THE SNOW
WILL THEN CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY...AND WILL BECOME
HEAVY AT TIMES OVERNIGHT. THE SNOW IS THEN EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF
FROM WEST TO EAST ON FRIDAY. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO
RANGE FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES ALONG THE INTERSTATE 20 CORRIDOR. EVERYONE
IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD TAKE THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PREPARE
FOR HAZARDOUS SNOW ACCUMULATIONS FOR THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE
LATEST FORECASTS.
1-3 inches! And what's really funny..is that 1-3 inches would really shut us down lol. I do hope they're right though...I'd love to get some snow pics

My parents just got here yesterday - they live in Jackson! I'll have to share with them

We're supposed to get something here tonight, maybe sleet or POSSIBLY snow, and the kids can barely contain themselves. In past winters we got ice, and two years ago we were shut down for THREE DAYS because of it.

It ROCKED.

no way! my whole family (on my mom's side) is there.

They're not in Jackson either - they're actually in Star, a tiny, itty bitty town near Florence. Star's claim to fame is that it's the home of Faith Hill! obviously she doesn't live there anymore, but her parents do. My cousin coached her on a softball team year ago when she was a kid.

small world!

So Nikki - I got to Mississippi a few times a year to visit my folks...next time I'll shoot you a PM and maybe we can meet up for coffee or something!

Well we had almost 3 feet on ground from the last storm, and we've got another 10" on the ground so far with this one (worse because it's the super heavy wet gross stuff). You're all welcome to come and take some

I find it hilarious, but also disturbing, that the Federal Government has been shut down all week. I know that there's no where to put hte snow, but come on now! Lol! Baltimore is a disaster as well. The city is under snow emergency right now (only authorized emergency personel and vehicles are allowed on the roads). I'm pretty sure that we'll be snowed in tomorrow as well if this keeps up all afternoon like it's supposed to.

Yep, same thing happens here!! We're supposed to get snow tonight or tomorrow too! why is it so cold everywhere!!! I'm tired of winter.

Honestly, people might freak out a little too much, but I totally understand it. In places that are used to snow all winter, they expect it and are prepared a little more. (unless it's a ton like it has been). Where as places in the south that aren't as prepared, don't have the resources to take care of it. I heard in the DFW area there are like 130 sand machines or whatever, but only 40 something drivers for like a 200 mile range or something. And then, it's usually really wet snow which often means a layer of ice as well which is dangerous. so you know, it's different. people might be a little extreme at times though.

Yeah, up here in the "north" we are now sick of the snow! If you would like some snow, you can have it. It's basically been snowing here since Friday, with Sunday being the only break. We usually don't get this much snow or this frequently. I had warned my DH, because we had such a mild winter last year, we were going to get slammed this year.
Of course, I was the only stupid person in my department to go into work today - I ended up getting stuck in a snow bank on a corner close to work and some good samaritans helped push me out of it. I live in the same town as the office and we are only at a level 1 snow emergency (i.e., don't park on the streets), and the snow removal has been dismal. Now we didn't get the degree of snow that Maryland did, but I shoveled for an hour this morning to get out of my driveway - and I had already shoveled the driveway yesterday morning (and Saturday afternoon). Ugh!

ohh this am..on regis the lady that they called for the trivia said it was FREEZING where she was..it was 57!! haha (florida) on top of that she said she was from wisconson! Surely if you lived in Wisconson most of your life 57 would be like a heat wave in winter right?

I talked on the phone with a guy in KY today, he was whining about their 6" of snow, then asked where I was, when I told him ND, he told me he would stop talking about his snow then.

DH is in north FL right now, when I talked to him tonight it was about the same temp there as here (AK)...

We got another 7" this week, but have only had 3" in the last two months, so it wasn't much of a big deal. I do like 4-wheel drive though!

We had the same type of warning for up to 5 inches (when we're used to getting 2 feet at a time sometimes!) They closed school early and guess what, we didn't get any snow at all besides a few flurries! So funny!!!

Well our weather man just said "It's not a question of if we have snow..it's a question of how much"...so yay! Maybe we'll get to play in the snow with the kids tomorrow...but we were also supposed to pick up our new puppy tomorrow so that may have to wait another day ...I'm so ready to smooch on him

We've been expecting some and I checked the school status this morning to discover that school was on as usual. So, imagine my surprise when we opened the door to see it really coming down and already a couple of inches accumulated on the car.

Thing is, it's REAL snow and not the icy sleet crap we normally get that makes driving so dangerous. Landon and I played out in the yard a bit before leaving for school. I got a few pics, but nothing awesome.

Since the start of February Memphis has gotten a footish, and where I live just a little north of there we've gotten almost 3 feet, and are due for more this weekend. Normal is MAYBE a 1/2 a foot. This stuff is killing us since none of us know how to function in this weather.

Well, you can mark Louisiana off that list. It hasn't stopped snowing here since about 6:00 this morning. I've never seen it snow for a whole day here before! lol. We actually have about an inch on the ground. teehehe

Holy cow, this is the most snow Texas has ever had in a 24 hour period. It seriously snowed nonstop for 24 hours here!! I can't believe. Shane measured the snow this morning, 10 inches. And then he left for work. I was hoping he'd take the day off and stay inside and warm with us!
