Default Dealing with eczema...

I meant to look this up earlier and forgot, then was on her blog today and remembered...this is an option for those of you suffering with eczema or with kids suffering from it.

Healing Eczema

You may not go the food route because it's not your thing, but I'm a firm believer that food has a lot to do with how our skin reacts to everything. And there are alternatives to the companies she buys from if you're not into them, but the combination of food, treatment, sun and prevention helped her son out a lot.

Oh, I will have to read this later Darcy. Thank you for the info. Sun healed a really bad eczema spot I had under my left knee area a few years back. I had no idea that spending that summer out in the sun was going to heal it...I was just enjoying the beautiful Texas sun!

I sure was glad when it was gone though! It was so bad (about the size of a cantaloupe) and I used to claw it so bad that I would bleed. Horrible but, it literally itched that bad.

Thanks for this! I have an acute eczema during winter, especially because I grow up in a tropical Bali, and now living in Liverpool, UK which is literally sunless!
In winter 2008 I suffered badly, that DH had to 'shipped' me home to heal. But then I learnt a lot (thanks to my mother in law and my DH's support). Winter 2009 was great! I had very minor eczema.
I agree, Darcy, that food has something to do with it. For me it was spicy (hot) food and seafood. I don't eat seafood anymore except for fish. And during winter, I shower less (once a week), wear MORE. It's so important that I keep myself warm. DH even bought me the heating underblanket to keep me warm at night.
And now I don't suffer as much as I used to Wear more mosturisers (natural ones) and avoid detergents.

SUN is very very important! I am very happy when the sun comes out here in UK. It's rare, so it's very precious

It's nearly bedtime for me, so I'll read it in the morning.

My 2 boys suffered with eczema, it has practically healed on my youngest, but my oldest has it so badly still, he has been under hospital care for it for 4 years, and at the moment his legs are awful.

Thank you so much for sharing this. Just this morning my daughter was scratching her chest furiously. I lifted her shirt and she was covered in tiny bumps. I went to the medicine cabinet to try and find something to help soothe her skin, but there wasn't anything there (we don't use much in the way of lotions & what-not). I remembered from the article that the author suggested coconut oil. I put some on her and she's been saying all day that her chest feels better.

Now to track down the source of the bumps...I'm thinking it's the marshmallows she got as a treat yesterday, since everything else she's eaten all week has been her usual, standard fare.

This is a rough one for me, my son fights it. It acts up in the winter and summer. We bath him only twice a week, unless necessary for some reason. We use steroids and creams. Taking him out in the sun equals a sunburn no matter how strong the sunblock. I've found 90 proof and tried it with only 5 minutes in the sun. He was crisp. Getting a sunburn makes it worse. So we can't really go out in the sun and have it help. He is so fair its almost seems translucent. He gets it from me, I'm the same way without the eczema. We do everything we can and try to control it without meds.

Thanks Darcy! Also, for any who are interested in further information that goes along with what Darcy shared, you can see my friend Leesa's website and read her story and how she healed her son.

My oldest has horrible eczema which is just now clearing up after a horrible outbreak. Hers is related to a peanut allergy, which we are convinced daycare gave her something. We use a steroid cream and moisturizers and she takes Allergy medicine every day. We also try to keep her food choices closely monitored. Since before her diagnosis, she is a different girl, funny and giggly and not at all like the unhappy girl she was before.

Coconut oil? I will have to find some. My son's is always way better in the summer than the winter. I assumed it was the dry winter air though, not the sun. I am tired of using the steriod creams on him, it worked fabulously at first, now, it barely touches it. I think taking him in to be tested for allergies would be a good idea, too.
