I agree with a more rustic look. Shabby with that bit of a worn, ragged style. Plaids, stripes and denim, washed out colors contrasted by some darker shades of blues, reds, browns, etc. Some wooden pieces, too (like a wooden plank, maybe even broken; stars, circles, etc.) some metal would look great, too.
