Default School clothes.

So ... what are you getting your kids.

I should really give myself a budget. I might just go crazy.
hahah

I think we are ALMOST done.

we have
  • 3 pair of new jeans
  • 1 polo
  • 1 LS T-shirt
  • 2 pair of LIGHTWEIGHT summer slacks
  • 5 pair of shorts
  • 4 new t-shirts
  • 1 button down
  • 2 pairs of shoes

still need:
  • 1-3 more pair of jeans
  • 2-4 pair of regular weight slacks
  • more T-shirts
  • 4-5 long sleeve shirts to go under t-shirts when it gets cool
  • NEw jacket around January -- hahah - takes about that long to get cold enough
  • new socks/undies
  • 1-2 pair of "nice" shoes instead of graphic/light up ones

This could all be worthless and his weekend wardrobe if we decide we like the private school.

Oh my.

DS is moving to a new school next year because he is in our county's program for gifted education, which they chose to relocate to a magnet school. That particular school has "uniforms." Elementary students are required to wear khaki pants and a solid color polo type shirt. So I guess I'll be buying LOTS and LOTS of khakis and polo type shirts. This is going to cost me a fortune because now I'm buying two sets of clothes instead of one.

I always loved back to school clothes shopping My mom was always mean though and wouldn't let us wear anything until school actually started. That was TORTURE (even though I know it made sense, so we didn't ruin anything beforehand).

Our school clothes shopping is usually pretty light because it's basically still summer when school starts (this year August 23rd). My daughter still needs...

-haircut
-2 pairs new sneakers
-socks
-2 or 3 new pairs of shorts

I usually go shopping again around October and buy some Florida-style "winter" clothing which usually consists of jeans, leggings, a few long sleeve shirts and a new jacket and light sweater. I may buy her 2 heavier sweaters for around December and January but I usually just layer up the long-sleeve tees and jacket when it gets cold here because cold doesn't normally last long.

Same with us Debbie. We actually go back August 9! I am letting my kids get one new outfit just for first day, then we'll buy more stuff after school starts and when it goes on sale.

I don't really do Back To School shopping either. Each kid gets a new outfit for the first day and then we just buy as needed throughout the year.

I'm not even going to buy long pants/jeans until probably Sept or later b/c it doesn't cool off here til then anyway and the rate he's growing I'd have to buy new ones again anyway lol

My kids start on Monday and I just bought them a new pair of tennis shoes. It is so hot here they will be wearing their summer clothes through October. I usually don't need to worry about jeans or long pants until December.

I had to buy Benjamin and Amelia both a bunch of new stuff back in April-May, because they had outgrown everything! So I'm thinking (hoping) I won't need a lot. I know Rae needs a new jacket, hers was a hand me down from Amelia that is getting in hard shape, and Amelia will need some new jeans. We will need long pants almost right away, though we might get away with shorts or capris for a week or two. We don't start until September.

I only buy a couple pairs of shorts, a few new shirts and new shoes to start out. Since they wear shorts until December, I don't buy any winter clothes until after school starts. There is usually a big season change over in clothes during September/October so I wait for that.

eta: I did get an email from Crazy8 that their jeans are $9 so I might go ahead and get some of those.

probably nothing tbh.. LOL. We'll have JUST moved into our new place like 2 weeks before school starts...and im sure we'll still be settling. I'm hoping he has a few nice outfits to wear for the begining of school and then we'll buy things once fall/winter hit. I'm not big on clothes shopping

We hit the Kid 2 Kid store mid-June. Got each of my boys BRAND NEW pants there with the tags still on for like 5 bucks each! SUPER stoked. Since they are now into size 10's and 14's. And you can never find those at the used places right before school starts. Spent $80 on each kid there and they are set. And all the clothes look new and such! Only have to buy tennis shoes for each and we're set. School starts here August 18th.

My girls start back August 17th and I just bought their school supplies last night but haven't done any clothes shopping yet. It will stay hot here all the way into October so they pretty much wear their summer clothes til it starts cooling down. I will probably buy them each one or two new summery outfits and a new pair of tennis shoes and that's it til later in the fall when I buy them new jeans, shirts etc.

Actually I need advice about this.

My daughter is starting kindy (public school so no uniform) and I don't know how much clothes she'll need. She's been in daycare up until now so I always sent her in some yucky clothes for her to dirty.

What and how much does she need?

We start the day after labor day here.

For kindergarten I wouldn't send her in anything too nice or too expensive. My younger DD was a kindergartner last year and they did a lot of painting and coloring with markers and did lots of projects with glue and scissors and glitter etc. and she was always coming home with something on her clothes. They also go out for recess and she dirtied her clothes up quite a bit playing out on the playground too.

Nothing right now. School starts Aug 18th & it will be shorts & short sleeves still probably until the end of Sept.

Eventually I will need to buy jeans for DS2 or maybe DS1, it depends on who grows the most in the next few months . DS1 will need some long sleeved shirts, DS2 will get a few as well just so he has some new things mixed in with his brothers hand me downs.

They both need shoes but I'm waiting until right before school starts for those

I don't do much back to school shopping either since they'll be wearing their summer clothes for the first few months. They'll each get a new outfit for the first day and we'll buy them new tennis shoes also. For some reason that has become a project we usually tackle while we're on vacation. They will both use their backpacks that were new last year so we'll fill them with new supplies and they'll be set!

It probably depends on how frequently you like to rotate through clothes and also how often you do laundry. I aim for about 10 outfits per weather season because I'm not a fan of laundry and only do it around once a week. I've never had a problem with my kids getting their clothes soiled or messed up at school. Sure a bit of crayon or marker might get on something but nothing that Spray And Wash can't get out. Of course even though I say 10 outfits, I always end up with more (I can't help myself! LOL) because of wanting something nice for picture day, Christmas outfit, etc.

I buy all through the year when I find great prices. Right now, around here, all the summer stuff is on sale and I got a bunch of striped polo shirts for 3 $ a piece at Wal-Mart. I also got some jeans and khakis under 10 $ a pair, which is fabulous, cause my son is really hard with his clothes, so I really don't want to spend much. Last year, he was in kindergaten and I can hobestly say that about 80 % of his clothes was in really bad shape at the end of the year. Many pieces had holes, stains, etc.

I also buy them about 3 nice outfits each a season for special occasions and I splurge on those! lol!

We buy fall/winter shirts on clearance in the spring, so we're set on those. Pants sizes are harder to predict since both my sons are hard to fit, so I wait until late August or Sept to buy them. We go back in early Sept, but they won't start wearing long pants until late Sept.

I'm like Julie-I aim for 7-10 outfits, but my mother LOVES to shop so we always end up with more than that. I think how messy things get depends entirely on the child. My oldest DS just finished K, and very few things got dirty or stained. He's always been a pretty neat kid. My 4 year old destroys everything, so I get him more than I think he needs (and everything WAY on sale) so I can throw out the ruined things and not mind.

Luke doesn't really need a whole lot. The only thing I need to get him is a pair of track pants or two and maybe a pair of jeans. The boy has so many clothes. I went through before the garage sale and got rid of half of what he wears now. LOL

Loving all the advice for the first timer's. I have a DS that is reasonably clean doing stuff but plays hard on the play ground. I know we will need 2-3 more jeans and maybe 2-3 more shirts but grandma buys and sends clothes year round she finds on sale. (we live overseas so selection is Extremely limited.) I also hope to hit up the thrift store and maybe find extra jeans/shirts.
School on base here starts Aug 30th and I'm so excited!

My son will be going to a private school, so it makes shopping easy, but boring! He is so mad that he has to wear navy blue uniform pants and a white polo EVERY.SINGLE.DAY!

My kids are in private school. Rylie has uniforms and I'm just about finished with buying for her. Need to go to the uniform store and get one more ss polo. Will goes to the same school but will be in preschool and they don't do uniforms. He'll wear clothes he already has until it starts getting cooler. I have started buying the kids some fall clothes, but not a whole lot yet. It will be Oct. before they can really wear them.

oh my GOSH I've had so much fun with back to school shopping! not for my son mind you, heck, boys only need JEAN and KHAKI and they're good to go but for my daughter who starts Kindergarten this year - OH MAN!

I just bought a bunch of stuff at Gymboree...I had $100 in gymbucks from purchases at the outlet store (got a ton of CHEAP summer clearance stuff she can wear most of the fall). I just placed a huge order last night - for some of the new fall stuff that just came out. She's going to be SO cute in them!

and I got her two new pairs of Skechers (at the outlet mall)...one pair of the twinkle toes and one pair of regular old sneakers (with lots of purple bling, of course!).

i can't WAIT!

Oh - and anyone who needs backpacks...Gap had them today, regularly $19.99....they were 30% off, then everything in the STORE was an additional 30% off...so they came out to like $9.50!! lots of cute styles, too
