I've just stumbled across the Charlotte Mason style of education, and I'm fascinated. Does anyone have any experience with this? It seems great, but maybe there's something I'm missing.

I think its a great curriculum choice for you -- We use the well trained mind -Similar - the focus is on more of a classical education. I know there are a ton of sites that are great for Charlotte Mason
http://www.winterpromise.com/ http://www.livingbookscurriculum.com...s-homepage.htm http://www.tanglewoodeducation.com/ www.bfbooks.com I did sonlight with the kids before and it is a great literature biased curriculum too...not so much on the nature portion - I think in the end that you have to do what you feel would work best for your family, and if you love it go for it! You don't have to follow it to the letter, you can tweek it to make it work for you. There are hs curriculums out there for EVERYONE!!!! ![]() |

Charlotte Mason turned out not to be for us, but it's the style we started with, and I still use some of the components from the theory. We have switched to a more classical approach (using The Well Trained Mind and Teaching the Trivium as models).
It's definitely a gentle approach to learning. I think Emmy leans toward it in her homeschooling model...balancing it with Classical. |

We use The Well-Trained Mind as a guide and use some Charlotte Mason style approaches to how I teach....if that makes any sense. LOL!
You'll find a ton of great information and free curriculum at Ambleside Online. I love their artist and composer studies, and refer to the booklists some as well. I have enjoyed The Handbook of Nature Study - not a Charlotte Mason book, but it works nicely with nature studies. This website has some great resources for nature journaling, studies, etc... Good luck!! |
