Prayers, please!

Friends, please pray for my dad. He recently had surgery to remove a lump on his leg and it appears to be malignant. My parents will know more when they meet with an oncologist next week, but the possibilities being discussed are pretty scary.

Please pray for peace for us as we wait, and that God will choose to do a miracle and surprise the doctors by turning this into nothing serious.

Kara, I went through this with my husband this September. The first thing I'll say is to not do any research at all until you meet with the oncologist. The possibilities caused me so much stress and heartache.

Do they know what kind of malignancy? My husband's was a sarcoma and very rare sarcoma called histiocytic sarcoma (though pathology is still up in the air about that).

Anyway, he had surgery to remove the area and is now seeing an oncologist for follow ups.

PLEASE feel free to PM me for anything at all even to vent because I so completely understand the fear that comes with that dreaded C word.

Oh how scary! Sending you and your family prayers. I definately agree that meeting with the oncologist is the right thing. I would pass on surfing on the web. Not much helpful stuff on there, you can just go down all kinds of tangents!

Thank you SO much for all of your prayers for my dad. The Mayo Clinic cannot positively identify the type of cancer found in the biopsy taken 3 weeks ago, but they believe it to be a very rare form of sarcoma. The biopsy is being sent to Boston for evaluation by a specialist there, and in the meantime, he is being sent to sarcoma specialists at the University of Minnesota. Until a firm diagnosis is made, we won't know anything about prognosis, etc. Treatment is likely to be chemo, so strong that it may require hospitalization. My dad is the type of guy who is so rarely sick and never complains, and it breaks my heart to think of him having to endure this.

Thanks for the update, Kara . . . haven't stopped praying for your dad (and the rest of your family), and I won't. Sounds like y'all are working with a phenomenal medical team, and that should give you some peace of mind at least. Best of luck and lots of (((hugs)))!

Kara, my guess is it's being sent to Dr Christopher Fletcher at harvard. That's wh did the pathology on m husband. Did they sa histiocyic sarcoma? That's what my husband had his leg and it's the rarest sarcoma.

Updating for those of you who have been so kind as to pray and send words of encouragement:

He does indeed have sarcoma. They're not positive on the exact type, but they are treating it as Ewing's sarcoma. The prognosis is not good; chemo starts on Friday. He's otherwise in good health, so we're hoping that bodes well for him. It is really hard to see my dad, who has always been my hero, weak and vulnerable. Thank goodness for our Father in heaven who walks alongside us and gives us the strength we need.
