Default fads from growing up? what do you remember?

I was just thinking about this this weekend when I was talking to my niece about those little shaped bracelets cause I had a pack I had won out of a claw machine and asked if she had any. She said she had a bunch of them so I asked how come she didnt have any on. So she told me they are not popular anymore at her school. Now it is all about Squinkies which I have to admit are just to darn cute. So it got me to thinking about what was in fashion (or what fads were around) growing up. I can remember these:

(I dont know what to call them LOL so I had to post a picture)

Of course jelly bracelets which I wore tons of and slap bracelets.

Slam books which were banned in our school even if they were not mean to anyone. We always had questions like Whos your best friend or whats your favorite color...so I guess it kinda should have had a different name since we werent slamming anyone.

Pegging our pants, guess jeans, coca-cola shirts, leg warmers, really big hair, acid wash jeans, oh and those horrible two tone jeans that were like acid washed but then had like pink or aqua or yellow overwashed on top of them....not all at once of course LOL These are just the ones that I really remember being big at some point during my childhood.

Thats about all I can remember right now. So what about you? What were the fads you can remember growing up? How about for your kids? Pokemon was one of the biggest things my kids loved growing up. I mean Pokemon was EVERYTHING!!

Ahh, I can smell the AquaNet (*choke*)

I had forgotten all about that jewelry! I remember twist-a-beads; huge earrings; low-hanging belts; oversized shirts; stirrup pants; VANS; parachute pants; jelly bracelets; friendship pins; lace fingerless gloves; leg warmers; jellies; Union Jack muscle shirts; the Corona Beer and Hard Rock t-shirt crazes; Units (anybody recall those stores?)

And since you've brought back some 80s memories for me, I have to mention an 80s thing that I saw in the store...Barbie as Krystal Carrington...and I think they have an Alexis too. It was just...ewwwww. LOL

Pet rocks & mood rings

It was the 70s.

Flared pants. Flared courderoy pants that you could hear swishing & flapping together as you walked. Flat center parted hair, soon replaced with big teased hair in the 80s

Earth shoes. They were so uncomfortable

The shirts that changed colors. Can't remember the name of them though. Remember the fluorescent clothes? Oh my gosh, everyone could see ya coming from a mile away. Jelly shoes, High Top LA Gear Tennis Shoes (I had a black pair with bright pink on them) I also had a pink and purple polka dot pair of vans. oh man those were the days. LOL!!

I remember those charm necklaces! I'd forgotten about them until you posted that. I remember a sad number of these. Also, how rolling your jeans? You had to do that vertical fold before you rolled, to get that truly flattering silhouette, LOL.

Oh boy, this thread is taking me right back to Jr. High. Swatches, acid wash jeans, fluorescent, multiple pairs of socks. All that good stuff. I also remember wearing multiple t-shirts and rolling up the sleeves, so that the roll was a different color than the outside t-shirt. Ahhhhh . . . the 80s!

LOL we sure did have some great styles huh? The reallu funnny thing is I was in hte mall and some of the stores have stuff that is IDENTICAL to stuff I wore back then!! One of the stores was Charlotte Russe and another is called The Cotton Store (or something like that). The styles actually reminded me of the 80's Madonna look

Oh yea not sure if anyone else did this but do you remember when Dirty Dancing came out? The next year all the girls were wearing cut-off denim shorts that we folded just like hers in the movie! My mom got so mad at me for cutting some jeans off to make shorts LOL

I was just thinking about that double sock thing just a few days ago... and then pairing it with double tank tops and then putting a button down shirt over that... and then the pastels acid wash pants... then I remember my hitops had the "pump" and I had a Garfield tie cover like you would use on little kids to keep the bow tied. Then I had those huge glasses that covered most of my cheeks... really curly perm that was all puffed up and gelled on the sides and held back with combs... wow, now that is what I call fashion!!

Then in the 90's (high school for me) was the men's crazy... vests, button covers, demin everything, neckties... spats.

yes, I was a child of the 80s. Did all the fads you mentioned too. cringe! Thank goodness my parents didn't take pictures of me! LOL My standard clothing was acid washed jeans with ripped out knees or a micro mini skirt and a neon shirt. Hair done up BIG with a rad Madonna-like bow headband. And fingerless lace gloves.

remember the boys having rat tail hairstyles? LOL

I've been thinking about this (my memory is not what it used to be! LOL) and here is what I remember:

Farrah Fawcett hair
Big combs in the back pocket to comb those Farrah wings
Bell bottoms
Gauchos with gaucho boots
Macrame belts
Earth shoes
Mood rings
Pet Rocks
Mexican jumping beans
Duncan Yo-Yos (HAD to be a Duncan!)
Hula Hoops
45 record singles (especially remember Ace Frehley and Dr. Hook)
Shaun Cassidy
Leif Garrett
Pop rocks
Bonnie Bell lip balm in many flavors
Sea Monkeys
Magic 8-ball

I was an 80's teen, all my middle and high school years. Ahhh So much of that stuff is coming back, it cracks me up.

I remember those Units stores being a huge thing too. Jelly shoes, Legwarmers. Bedazzlers. Guess jeans. I totally rocked the belts that would wrap around like 4 times. Parachute pants. 80's make up was bad! I had the sides of my head shaved and those super long bangs over one eye YIKES I wore tons of black tights with ripped jeans or shorts over and Docs. Good times

Oh gosh the ripped jeans!! I used to wear those all the time. I had one pair that had so many rips in it there was barely any jeans left. I would wear tights under them. When I got to high school the crowd I hung out with wore black everyday. Usually a concert t-shirt/band t-shirt. I had alot of those growing up too.

The first thing that comes to mind is leg warmers. I remember wearing these in the mid 80s, when I was in junior high and thinking I looked soooo cool LOL
