Default Pantry Organization?

I have a small house and no pantry - so to make do, DH and I bought a pantry cabinet and put it in our kitchen (from the photo, it looks like it extends past our kitchen wall, but it doesn't really - it's just because of the angle I took the photo). DH stuck some random stuff in it last night, but I want it to be organized & pretty!

I want to get something like this for the shelves, but I know I've seen a tutorial somewhere on how to make them. I think someone here at SSD had linked it up, but I can't find it anywhere - even with extensive Google-ing, lol.

The drawer will probably be for spices - I'd like something like this:

Any other tips on organizing my new pantry spot?

In mine I put breakfast stuff on one shelf, entree type stuff on another and canned good on another. Then I had a shelf on the door to organize spices and seasoning packs for chili/taco/granvies.

I have a bunch of rubbermaid containers too like the tall/slim ones for cereal. Keeps it fresh and takes up less room than some of the boxes. I don't have a lot of cans (Use frozen veggies and such) but I do keep the ones I have together. What about getting a spice carousel and jars for your counter instead of putting them in the pantry so you can save that room? They take up relatively little counter space and you can put 15-20 jars on them

I have a rotating carousel already, it holds 16 spices - but I have more spices than that and want them organized and out of their ugly bags (the ones in the pantry are my extras that won't fit in my carousel).

Someone I know took a shoe organizer (one of those over-the-door ones) and cut it to the size she needed it, then used it to store packets of stuff.... you know, seasoning packets for tacos, slow cooker dinners, things like that.

Just a thought. I don't really know pantry organization otherwise... ours is a mess.

If you have a fridge with an open side - you can do something like this:

It really helped clear out some pantry space to get spices up and out of the way.

I do a ton of storage in larger glass jars in my pantry - getting stuff out of boxes that take up room - and you can double up in many cases (2 box fulls of things fitting in one glass jar that isn't much bigger, but takes up less space in storage). But other modular storage is good, too. There are several series out at Target and Container Store or Tupperware that would work.

I'd also consider a wire rack in the bottom that gives you a double/layer if you don't have a ton of tall items. that way - you can store the larger items on one side, then have a rack that helps store 2 layers for smaller items that aren't used as much.

I saw this the other day: http://www.amazon.com/Organize-It-Al...6371480&sr=8-4

I love the idea of using that top few inches of a shelf that is usually wasted. Also love the idea of my boxes not all tumbling out at me every time. LOL

I have something similar to Darcy's spice organization photo but it's different enough to share.

I have three of these from Ikea mounted to the inside of one of my kitchen cabinets:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00136621

They're magnetic knife holders, but I put my spices into metal tins and then stuck them to the holders on the inside of the cabinet.

As for pantry organization - ours is just a random mix of wire and plastic containers I've had forever. It's not pretty, and I'm honestly not sure how functional it is!

ETA: if you have a pinterest account, do a search for pantry organization - TONS of ideas there!

We use those in our pantry, too, Angie - they're awesome for plastic/foil storage, oddball things that don't fit anywhere else, and serving platters

Me too! I love how slim they are and way cheaper than Tupperware. Might also want to get something like this for foil and such: http://www.amazon.com/Organize-It-Al...6387985&sr=1-8 and maybe http://www.amazon.com/Organize-All-1...ef=pd_sim_hg_2 if, like me, you stock up.
