Default So I'm a clutz...

and also be careful what you wish for

yesterday I had a big old pity party b/c DH was gone from sunup til sundown and the kids were just wild and it was hot and I was tired and grumpy and all day just kept wishing I could have a quiet day to myself.

This morning after I sat at the computer for a bit I went upstairs to bring DD down and slipped on the stairs and fell..hard. My left foot stayed behind me though and I heard that awful dreaded "pop" and knew it wasn't good especially when I tried to stand up and it hurt so bad I just sat down and nearly cried.

Thankfully DH was home today so he was able to take me to the doc..turns out it's not broken "yay!!" but it is a really bad sprain..I can't even bear to put any pressure on it right now.

So looks like I'll now have a day of doing nothing...not exactly how I wanted it though..and since I scrap on my desktop I can't even do that to pass the time.

DH is gone right now to get me some happy medicine so at least maybe I can doze and catch up on some DVR'd shows

Ouch - I went through a sprained ankle too last year and it was no fun. They almost thought I had actually torn the tendon too, but thankfully not. I do not envy you - take care of it! Get some R&R...

BTW, it's sort of funny (not ha ha funny) because I also fell down the stairs this morning too - thankfully no major issue, just a bruised butt.

Sorry Nikki! I'm a huge klutz myself and can trip over flat surfaces (did all the time this last week). I've slid down the stairs too, thankfully nothing sprained. Hope you have a good book!

Oh no! It's so hard to take care of 2 little ones when you can't get around. I hurt my ankle last summer, and the one nice thing about it was 3 days of sitting on the couch scrapping while the kids watched lots of videos, LOL. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Just wanted to share that I entirely sympathize with you today! I sprained my index finger (at least the pain and swelling make it seem like I did) killing a freakin' spider with my shoe in my hand on the back porch this afternoon. Don't try to visualize. LOL

Hope you feel better very soon!!

Ouch! Maybe this is when you REALLY need to kick in the guilt about him leaving your camera outside. Maybe you can get a laptop out of the deal too! I kid....kind of.

Thanks everybody. It's not much better this morning. I can't stand to put any weight on it at all which is really frustrating. I've broken my foot 2 times before and the pain then was just like this..but they saw nothing on the xray. Anyone had a bad sprain before? I just really don't know how long to expect pain this bad. DH is home again today but he leaves at 4am for 2 weeks!! ugh. My mom will come help me but I just want this to go away.

Nikki, I severely sprained my ankle about 6 weeks before my wedding. I was scared I'd still be on crutches for the wedding, but I just barely was able to get up and walking pretty normally on it about a week or two before the wedding. I was down and out big-time for a good few weeks...sorry to be the bearer of bad news! But like Sandy said, sometimes a sprain REALLY is worse than a break (medical jargon here). I truly hope yours isn't too, too bad.

Oh I can so sympathize with you, except mine wasn't on stairs but rather outside (stepped in a hole on our lawn that had filled in with grass so you couldn't see it ). I was carrying DD (about 18 months at the time), stepped in that hole, and DROPPED her. Yeah, not good. She started screaming, I couldn't get up and my ankle/foot was swelling and turning blue right before my eyes DH was deployed at the time but thankfully DS was home. I never did go to the doctor and hobbled around with a pair of crutches for a couple weeks. It was literally about 3 months before I had no absolutely no pain anymore (but that's probably what I get for not going to the doctor ) Maybe it was broken, but it works fine now and it happened almost 9 years ago - LOL.

I did the same thing only it was steps and was carrying my son down the steps in his car seat. I tripped and he went flying....about 20 feet away. He was totally ok. Not even a scratch and he was still strapped into the car seat when I got up. My foot turned black/blue almost instantly but I did not go to a dr. It still hurts sometimes and this was years and years ago (he was a little over a year old and is now a month off 14).

Nikki, it may actually be broken. When abby broke the bones on the top of her foot it was a couple of days before they could see the break b/c of the swelling. You may need to have it re-xrayed.

Yes this JUST happened to my sister a few months ago..they kept telling her it was just a sprain and so she kept trying to walk on it and ended up breaking it worse and having to have surgery to repair it. So, I'm not trying to put pressure on it much at all. If it's still hurting this bad by Monday I'm thinking I'll go have another xray. The thing is though my foot really didn't swell much at all..it's just barely noticable and no bruising..so I don't know. Just waiting and seeing at this point.

some good/bad news though..Brian has another kidney stone..he was doubled over in pain all night which means he didn't leave for his 2 week class, but he's virtually useless to me now lol. We're a pair right now..I tell ya.

I am in the same club ... the clutz club ... I did something to my foot as well ... it swelled up and hurt to walk ... went to doctor yesterday and they took xrays ... couldn't see any break but said it could be a hairline fracture or something ... well POOP on the timing! ... dh had tickets to the KS Speedway today!!! Doctor told me to wrap it up, take some anti-inflammatory pills he gave me and STAY OFF the foot ... which meant no walking to get to the race track. ...so they are at the races and I'm going to scrap ... might as well make use of the time.

YIKES!!! I am so sorry that happened to you. I agree that you should have it re-xrayed. I fell down the stair 2 months ago and hurt my hind end. I just had an MRI on friday cause the swelling won't go down and the pain is still there so the DR. thinks there is still a possibility of a fracture. I still 2 months later have a fear of falling down the stairs. I hope it feels better for ya soon.
